The largest smartphone markets in the World are the USA and China, so essentially they are setting the smartphone trends. And these markets are choosing by a wide margin Android and Apple. Its highly likely that other markets will eventually follow the 2 major markets if BB doesn't find a way to improve its appeal.

Here in the UK RIM is still quite popular as Kiss Radio Station (One of the biggest in the UK) is always advertising BBM, their new Kiss Cube app for listening to the radio etc, adding them on BBM Music etc.

I haven't researched it, but the Chinese probably won't let RIM set-up its BIS/BES service as it goes against state control of media

China and Russia both have the ability to monitor their BB traffic. Otherwise they wouldn't have been allowed in.

It's funny because bb7 phones are more than serviceable. It's funny to me all these feature companies are putting on phones that people don't even use. I know multiple people with front facing cameras on their phones that don't even use the feature. I do think bb7 phones are what bb6 phones should have been. It's all word of mouth but I do think RIM has everything they need as a company to make it back to the top. They jut have to pull the trigger.

Since the carriers are controlled by the State, and the carriers control the BIS, they would have ability to see everything just fine.

Also, why BB may not be popular in China is on-screen keyboards can be in Mandarin or any of the many other language variations in that country. You can't make one keyboard for a country like China when it's quite different from one part to another. And, I'm assuming most Chinese don't want to learn/use English.

RIM will most likely address this with the first BB10 phone.
