3G curve for T-mobile coming soon
So I was at my local T-mobile store today with a very chatty manager. I was telling him how my contract is up soon and I was looking at the 8900 but didn't like the lack of 3G and was hoping for a Tour like BB. He said "Wait, we got a 3G Curve-like unit coming in by the end of the year. They're trying to push the release date up for back to school."
So... this sounds like the Onyx to me [fingers crossed]. I doubt it will be here that soon but I can wait for that sweet little number. And to think I almost signed away another 2 years for an 8900!!! - 07-01-2009, 06:20 PM #3

Curve 3G-like unit? Sounds to me he's talking about the T-Mobile Dash 3G.

Isn't the T-Mobile Onyx actually the driftwood? Anyways,, bmwmpower might be right. According to your post, OP, that manager said 3g-like curve, that doesnt exactly mean it is a blackberry. Another thing, I will not go off and believe everything that the reps in stores say at all. Most of the time they don't know what they are talking about.

I hope the new 3G units aren't quite the battery hogs that the current ones are.

Yes, but it hasn't been rolled out nationwide yet. There are only 113 cities that have T-Mobile 3G coverage at the moment.
The T-Mobile 3G network for the T-Mobile G1 phone with Google (Yes I know the link says G1, but it has a list of all of the cities that have 3G coverage.)You know how to get hip to my heart ♥

h3rb, you are so on the ball!
To be honest I'm not a huge fan of 3G in the US at the moment, regardless of the carrier.
So far I've only experienced problems when using 3G which outweigh the speed benefit. Dropping calls when going fro a 3G area to a 2G area, calls not coming through to the device while using data, or even not using data for that matter.
I turned off 3G on my Bold, and all the issues disappeared. So I would much rather use a reliable 2G network than the spotty 3G mess available to us at the moment.

My question is how is the tmobile dash curve like. If I am not mistaken the dash does not have a qwerty. I was under the impression that the driftwood was going to be the first 3g device for tmo and that it curve like. Could be wrong but I am willing to be at this point.

Sirhil is right on on the money. I googled driftwood and found the article below, it matches up exactly with what the tmo manager said as far as a September release. Also it mentions a carbon fiber back like the Tour and the new optical touchpad like the 8520. Can't wait to try out the touchpad, hope it works as good as the trackball, I hate cleaning it out.

There is an article on cb about the onyx and the driftwood which is the same phone just different names. You may have been reading more about the onyx because it is going to att but yes thw driftwood. Is the same. Thanks sac-guy for what you said but I was just going on what I have read and that I am a tmo user so I do keep up with what is going on with them. I also hope that it does have the trackpad but it would not be a deal breaker for me.
