Sure, I'll help out a fellow Hokie.
BBM is very similar to using AIM or gchat. Plus it won't count towards your text messaging limit (if you have one). If you happened to have friends in foreign countries with Blackberries, you wouldn't get charged for talking to them via BBM, you would with texting.
Overall, BBM is a more convenient way to converse with someone if you intend on having a nice conversation, plus it won't clutter your Messages inbox. - 12-24-2008, 02:56 PM #4
Time wise its about 6 seconds faster to receive a bbm than a txt. That's on verizon.

And you can also send voice notes as well. I LOVE BBM and use it all the time to communicate and send/receive pics with other Blackberry users. I also assume it works just as well with non-Verizon Blackberry users, although all my BB contacts are also with Verizon.

I'm new to the forums and need some clarification.
1. I have a blackberry device
2. My family member in ANOTHER COUNTRY has a blackberry device
3. I have unlimited data on my plan.
So I will not be charged for using blackberry messenger to another country? - 07-18-2009, 04:08 PM #18

Using BBM for other contacts
Okay, so one questioned answered. No sms charges for using bbm. However, what if you were to add a friend to bbm who isn't using bbm themselves because they own a Nokia for instance? I know that they will incur sms charges, but will I since I'm using bbm to converse with them?

Re: So what's the difference between BBM and texting
bbm is more than just an sms replacement. you can group chat and even have a group calendar and task list. you can manage large projects and assign tasks to team members all from your smartphone
