Minimum number of posts required before creating new BBM Group
I'd like to gather opinions on people creating BBM Groups.
Lately CrackBerry has a rash of BBM groups. Many of these are created by members with minimal CrackBerry posts. Often creating the BBM Group is their first post.
I am tired of seeing this massive amount of extraneous traffic on our site. This goes double because many of these groups duplicate each other.
With RIM thinking about releasing BBM on other platforms (a very good thing, imo) RIM preparing to bring BBM to iOS and Android, change everything again? -- Engadget this type of posting on Crackberry can only increase as any iPhone or Android or BlackBerry owner will be able to sign up to CrackBerry and create a BBM Group. This can only increase the number of "junk" threads we have to wade through to get to the real BlackBerry content as we stand today.
I therefore propose that CrackBerry.com impose a minimum number of CrackBerry posts before members may create a new BBM group.
My suggestion would be to make the minimum number of CrackBerry posts a member has to have before they are allowed to create a new for BBM group to be the same as that for the Marketplace. Currently this is 100 posts however, it could be lower. What do you think?
This would immediately accomplish several goals.
- It would stop casual BBM Group creation by people who have not the slightest interest in CrackBerry other than creating their group.
- It would immediately reduce the number of this type of post.
- Since many groups have already been created on almost every subject, it would focus people's attention toward the existing groups thus greatly reducing duplicate or similar group creation.

what kills me is the that brand new people sign up and immediately go the bbm group section and in anywhere up to 30 threads will say add me to the group@blueyestm

Interesting idea, I voted 25 also, this should help to prevent spammer groups WITHOUT preventing low post members from posting about groups.

I totally agree with this
25 is reasonable, 100 is not really fair imo.
here is the problem. you will have people spamming places to get their 25 posts. so you include a time period also of like 10-15 days after they register. This will cut down on a lot of BS.
We do 50 posts and 30 days before members can join our offtopic and for sale sections to avoid scamming on another site i am a mod on. It really helps the staff out with BS spammers in for sale.~Matt

I hate the "Sexy Singles, Hot People Only, No Dogs" groups. And the "Married but looking" groups.
At any, rate, I suggested that the BBM groups and social forums be removed from the "Today's BB Posts" search string awhile back, as my kids sometimes see my screen while I'm on CB, and I also use CB at work. Kevin took care of that on the main site, so that helps a lot, but the mobile site still shows them (hint hint )
I think 50 posts is perfectly reasonable.

I do not have kids, but I also would like to see the BBM groups/social forums be removed from "Today's BB Posts" on the mobile site, simply because I'm not interested. I do not like needing to wade through that junk when I'm looking through the new BB posts on the mobile site.

Wish I read the thread before voting because the phrasing of the poll has absolutely nothing to do with the implied options. The options should be geared toward creating threads for bbm groups, not creating bbm groups.
Eitherway my vote for 0 still stands.

BTW, thanks for starting this thread and poll. I couldn't tell if it was just my imagining it or if BBM Group posts had actually increased a lot in the last couple months.

By the way, as part of the minimum posts to sell in the marketplace, I've read comments that it's a min # of meaningful posts. I'm not sure who qualifies and quantifies that for marketplace acceptance, but could something like that also apply to this BBM concept to help avoid the folks just spamming other thread just to hit the min #?
