Also, if it's not already part of BBM, it would have to be on the recipient's phone as well for it to show up as a grapic and not just text.

No, you can't add emoticons to BBM
You can add them to autotext.
There are no hidden icons. What you see is what is available for BBM.
No, the recipient does not have to have the graphic on their phone to see it.

Gotcha. Thanks. Now I get it, and it does answer them all.

I think in my mind I was assuming they would show up as a picture similar to the smileys; but now I'm figuring it shows up more like an actually emoticon comprised of text.

There are some hidden smileys though. There was a blog post about it a while ago. Most of them you have to set up auto text to get them to come up from typing though. Some of the easier ones to find are the country flags.

Anyway. I'll quit rambling. Thanks for your quick response.
