I highly doubt it was a server issue. I'm sure we would have heard more reports from all kinds of bbm uses. I've been using bbm for years and have never seen a problem like this. I reverted back last night when it happened and as soon as I got 4.7 back on it was perfect. So I'm calling bs on this "server" comment.
For all of you that need bbm 4.7 back make sure you install the handheld os from BlackBerry® Software Updates.
Do a backup to retain all of your BBM contacts, delete bbm5.0 from the applications screen on device. Reboot, plug phone into DM, application loader, place a check mark next to Blackberry messenger, install, reboot, restore contacts from the backup.
good luck everyone.Blackberry Guru 9700!! - 07-19-2009, 04:39 PM #32
Beta or not its only a client. The server is designed to handle load and I'm sure it is load balanced however their infrastructure is set up. If it was server based then the whole bbm world would have complained, I've only heard issues from bbm5.0 users.

For those wanting to go back to 4.7, why don't you follow this guy's step by step directions?
Worked for me and was a piece of cake.
