Have a question on bbm

It his normal that when I send to one of my contact a message on bbm it send it but there's no "D" so he can't read it and I have no answers but for others it appears so what does that mean that mean cellphone it's close??

I have found this to mean it was not delivered because the other person does not have their phone on. As soon as they turn their phone on, it is delivered. I hope this helped.
