Default Disabling/Deleting Blackberry Messenger - Pros and Cons?

After playing with a Bold in the AT&T store the other day, I am now fully aware of just how much the speed (or lack thereof) of my Curve affects my typical workday.

Having just recently realized that a Blackberry is similar to a computer in that the more programs you have running, the slower the device works, I am committed to properly closing applications when I am done with them. i.e. there's no reason to have the default browser and Opera running at the same time, while having the media application still running in the background for no reason whatsoever.

This all being said, I notice that Blackberry Messenger is running all the time, no matter what I do. I do not use this program and don't think I will be using it anytime in the future.

My question is: Is the constant running of Blackberry Messenger effecting the speed of my device? Would uninstalling it help me out? Or is disabling it better accomplished by editing it's default permissions?

(On a more macro level, I would love if there was a way to fully exit all programs when they were closed via the 'call end' button.)

There are four programs that are always running that you cannot close: Messages, Browser, Call Log, and Home Screen. If you use Messenger, that's the fifth. I have had it installed, and I've deleted it. It's presently installed. Qualitatively, I can't see any speed difference on my 8830. That's not precise, and your results may vary, but I don't think you'll see a big speed improvement if you delete it.

yea i agree, doesnt seem to make a difference in the speed of my phone. but i would like to know everyones opinion on ptt. i have an att 8310 and it came with this god awefull feature and its one that is always running and there is no way to stop it unless you remove it out of a software update. i plan to do that for my next update but is it worth the effort? does ptt make that much of a difference in performance? some say yes, and others say no. i never use it, nor will i. please let me know.

Anything feature that you don't use and can remove to free up memory, you should. It won't make your 8310 any faster, but it will free up a significant amount of memory. And that always helps. If nothing else, it may give you room for an app you do want.

Don't use it myself. I find that texting suffices. So, I've removed it.
