Default Converted 720p to MP4

i have been converting 720p .mkv movies into .mp4 to play on my playbook. Size goes down dramatically... like a 4g .mkv will come out to a 1.x-2g .mp4. it looks HD on my playbook, but i was wondering, if i hookup the PB to a HD TV, will it still come out 720p even though the size is almost half (being .mp4)?

Are you using Handbreak? There is a setting in HB that will compress the video further. Its on the video tab and its called constant quality. The default is 20 and will compress the video further by 20-30% depending on the codec in the MKV. i would change this to 16-17 if you want to maintain the bitrate.

I'm using a program called Akme FFmpeg. Got it off one of the threads here in crackberry about converting .mkv to .mp4. My settings are usually the following:

output file format: MP4 MPEG-4 container; H.264-AVC-AAC MP4 Hight Quality
video size: same as original
video codec: H.264/AVC MPEG-4 Advance Video Codec (Heavy CPU)
video bitrate: -qmax 25; Hight Quality H.264 (q25-2)
