Syncing changes appointment reminders from relative to absolute time

ugh! Appointments on my Blackberry with relative reminder times (e.g., 15 minutes before a 2:45 pm event) show up on my Mac (in iCal) as having absolute times (e.g., 2:30 pm for a 2:45 event). That's not a big issue, until I move or paste/copy the appointment in iCal, and the new day and time for the event is ok but the reminder stays as it was before (e.g., if I move the 2:45 appointment in iCal to a different day, the reminder remains set as 2:30 on the original day).

Anyone know of a workaround? I am using Blackberry Desktop Software v 2.21 (build 7) on Mac OS X Lion
