Mac Tour 9630 Owners
This is here for now and for after the release for any Mac+Tour related issues (as if mac compatibility wasn't a bad enough reason). But there you go, I just did all the whining this thread will have. I really don't want this to turn into a group theropy session for Mac owners (like me) who cry about not having Desktop Manager.
Lets try to keep it at News, Issues with the Tour in relation to Macs, and respectfully squeezing as much information out of CX as possible.
Because lets be honest. I really want my "Verizon's Smartphone Tips and Tricks" CD to work!!!!!

Thanks. Great idea.
I'm a very loyal mac user but when it comes to smartphones, choose the BB over the iPhone anyday.
I have a feeling I'll be using this thread a lot when I finally get my Tour.

Mac + BB = disaster
Even to the point where I had to buy a PC because updating my 9630 on the MAC was completely impossible.
I tried so many times, and I also have a friend that does it all the time, and he wasn't able to do it either... I don't know if its the OS in the 9630 or if its just never going to work....
I DO LOVE MACS more than anything else tho... PC's are sooooooooo awful.... Now that I have a PC I can see how terrible they are...Last edited by salomondrin; 06-06-2009 at 11:15 AM. Reason: spelling

My plan to go finally go BlackBerry with my Mac is to use Google Sync for iCal and Address Book syncing...it's working wonderfully from Mac-to-Cloud right now. We'll see how it goes when I get my Tour.
I'm currently using my Palm Centro with Missing Sync but have no plans to pay another $40 for the BlackBerry version. The only problem I forsee with my cloud-only plan may be software installation, but it looks like the Google apps install from the web page and, well, I may just have to break from my Scrabble addiction on my BB or try what I've been reading about JAD deployments and such.

There isn't a "no compromise" solution for Mac owners out there yet. People seem to have problems with all the current attempts (Missing sync, Pocket Mac, even VMWare running windows can't sync ical and addressbook). So we have to make due for now.
I read elsewhere in these forums of a Desktop Manager in the works for this year, but I think it's total speculation. Maybe an insider could help us out on that.My Site coming soon: http://www.fotometer.com

I use Missing Sync to sync my current 8830 with my Mac, and it works flawlessly. I know not everyone has had that experience, but I've managed to get it working perfectly with iCal, Address Book, and so forth, which is what I care about. Putting files and such on the device is a little trickier - I usually just do that directly by bluetooth, because Missing Sync doesn't work so well for that.
For me though, in general, Missing Sync does everything I need it to except update the device's software, for that, I simply reboot into Windows (BootCamp). Updates are rare, so its hardly an imposition.
I am *assuming* Missing Sync will work fine with the Tour. I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't. - 06-07-2009, 04:59 AM #9
I will be completely honest...
the OS is going to be extremely close to the runnings of the storm..
maybe not stability wize but its going to probably interact with a mac the same way.
I use missing sync with my storm on the mac..
and obviously mass storage mode..
but until RIM gets on there **** about getting a fully working mac client out there its going to be the same unfortunately..Guys/Gals when I post things I am posting to the best of my knowledge if I am for certain incorrect please correct me more knowledge to me helps. Thanks!

Going to Sync with PC at work.
I made the switch to an IMac a few months ago for my home computer and think its an amazing machine. The PC's remind me of the former Big Three compared to their Japanese counterparts.
I'll be syncing with my PC at work as that's where all my Outlook contacts/calender/task are. - 06-07-2009, 10:47 AM #11
I use Google Sync is perfect for synching my iPhone, BB, and Mac and keeping them all in Sync. If I change anything on the BlackBerry, the iPhone and Mac reflect those changes, it is very nice. No need to plug into the computer at all unless I want to load some music onto the storm.
The iPhone is connected using a special "Microsoft Exchange" way that Google has provided, and the Mac's address book is sync'd to Google Sync.
Everything is done in check, and I suspect it will remain the same, when the Tour is released. - 06-07-2009, 10:49 AM #12

Wooooo!!!!!!!!! My guess is Q1/Q2 2010. If I were RIM I would get on my game though. The iPhone is rumored to launch for Verizon in Q3 2010 when Big Red rolls out (hopefully) their LTE. That's a whole new wave of "could have been BB users running on mac" that now have another compatible option.

You too?

My macbook is like my best friend only better. Haha.
Sometimes i think to myself about what 3 things I would grab if my house was on fire...and it's always my mac, my BB and my digital camera...and then sadly I remember that I have a cat...so I compromise and just figure I'll kick the cat out of the house field-goal style and then everything is all good.
Back to the topic - I really would appreciate a mac compatible BB application so if they're working on one I'm happy to wait a little while for it.
As for the Tour...waiting is not that easy.
