Whats the best way to update my phone's OS using a mac book?

if it's an official it should pop up when you plug in the phone. a leaked or hybrid doesn't seem to be possible without a PC/PC partition/Virtual machine

Im running 4.7.0.122.. when i plug my storm into my mac, desktop manager syncs everything but offers no OS update.

Do i need to set something up?

I think you are running the last official OS release for the 9530 from Telus. In order to install a newer OS, you will need to use a PC or use software to emulate the PC on your Mac.
