Why would you need to? Tether is for a tied use of your data to run a computer on the internet. A Wi-Fi hotspot does the same thing except without a cable.

But Mobile Hotspot requires extra tethering plan where Tether doesn't.

I sent this question to the support group for TetherBerry and they said it will not work. They also said until/unless they receive information on the 7.1 SDK that would give them the required APIs to hook into the hotspot functionality, there is nothing they can do to work around the issue (at this time).

So, what as the consumer, can we do to expedite this? I've always been interested in the app, but never pulled the trigger because of my device. But now, with the 9810,a Playbook and a laptop, I'm extremely interested in a workaround to use hotspot without having to pay ATT more money.

I would purchase a Tether app/workaround on Day 1, if it became available.
