I think I may do this once the next OS comes out. I am guessing before doing this, run DM and do a full backup first? Cuz if you have a factory cleaned wiped device and then install a new OS not sure how you'd have the option of backing up then.

Downloaded fresh .46 file using firefox.

While downloading I read JasonHDD's post about wiping with JL_Cmder before new os install. I did that as well.

I used the "wipe device using JL_cmder" instructions on blackberryfaq.com. One part of the directions are a mistake. Reinstall battery AFTER wiping and BEFORE installing os. Took me about 30 minutes to figure this out.

Be advised this will wipe ALL 3rd party apps. Back them up!!!

I went through the same steps that crashed me last time, and so far so good. I finally got to watch a youtube video. You guys were right, the image sucks!

I'm still skeptical, but its running great!

I'm not sure what did the trick, downloading via Firefox, wiping with JL_cmder or both, but as I said, so far so good.

For those who care I'll keep you posted.

Happy 4th,

Scott

24 hours later, and all was well. I have been trying every way possible to get this thing to crash, and everything was great, UNTIL..........

Just for the heck of it, I did a alt+shift+delete reboot. BINGO!! Crash.

When it booted back up, it would stay alive for about 1-2 minutes then brick.

I tried rebooting and battery pulls a couple of times, no joy.

So I took out the sd card. Played around with it for an hour. works great.

So I formatted the sd card, and put the empty card back in it. Still great.

Just for laughs I tried another alt+shift+delete reboot, and she came back up with no problems.

I am reloading all my stuff now.

In conclusion:

I don't think that any application or function was causing it to brick. If the app glitched and caused a reboot, I think the reboot is what caused the problem, obviously to the sd card. Why reformatting the card fixed it? Well, I'm not that bright.

But hopefully, the format will fix the problem, and me and my blackberry can live in harmony. I'll let ya know.

I haven't even installed the 4.5 and I'm running 4.3. I have had some trouble with some 3rd party apps having conflicts with the os so I am going to wait. Your experience looks it will come in handy!

It seems as if media player was the culprit in both my crashes.

Good luck,

i'm running .46 and tried both of these, and the 2nd one may have just bricked my berry, when i went to close it shut off, its restarting now, so maybe its not nuked, but i just thought i woudl let everyone know.

even though when I watch youtube vids i never close the media plyer I just hit the end button so ya, jus tthought i would let yall know.

-edit-

my BB just came back up. Just for kicks (and because i'm not worried about nuking my BB) I'm gonna try the youtube thing again just to see what exactly makes it crash, and will report back.

-yet another edit-

yea I just watched a couple more Youtube vids, and only hit the end key to get out of the media player and everythign worked fine. but using the menu -> close way caused a reboot. so yea, thats something I hope they fix for the official

Another 24 hrs and so far so good.

As Doug has found out, closing media player while connected to the internet will cause a reboot, mine will still reboot but it won't brick like it did before.

I'm scratching the firefox theory, but I think two steps towards a stable beta is wiping with jl_cmder and reformatting the sd card.

I just installed the vodaphone version on my wifes 8800 and she isn't having any of the troubles posted by others.

Well I'll make one final post in regards to my new found beta stability.

This is the longest I've gone without a crash since I tried the method recommended by jasonhdd. The only red flag is closing media player while loaded on youtube, but it has turned out to be a harmless reboot, so no sweat. I've put .46 through its paces and its holding its own. If this one ended up beiing the final release it would suit me.

For all the guys still dealing with issues, before giving up and downgrading, try wiping with jl_cmder and formatting your sd card. Hopefully your luck will change as did mine.
