No OS 7 for any old models.

Sell your Torch and upgrade if you want OS 7 and its Augmented Reality

Reading about it a lot... where?

"6.1 Lite" came up 6 months ago on a product slide presentation for one of the planned new lower end Curves.

When they re-numbered the OS to 7, there were questions about if there will be a "7 Lite" back then, and there may have even been an image leak of a computer inventory list for a Curve with that on it about a month ago. But that could have been miss-typed input.

But there's been no serious discussion about it.

And, as noted, the 9800 is never getting an OS that starts with the number 7.

rimm should at least release a 6.0.1.xxx build that gives you the ability to lock the panes.

Just install one of the 100s of free themes and the panes are gone, it ain't rocket science

But none of those free themes still have the slide up and down functionality of the home screen. They all only offer the static, fixed number of icons homescreen and then you have to click the menu button to get to the app screen. Sort of like back to OS 5.

(Apparently it's such a bit deal to make the sliding homescreen without the panels in the theme builder that no theme maker wants to tackle that without getting paid for it.)

Which is fine if you like that. I don't.

Plus, because of a conflict between the latest OS build (.600, maybe even before that) and non-panel (or trays, or whatever you want to call them) themes, you lose access to "homescreen preferences" from "Options" > "Display".

RIM should refund ALL 9800 owners their money or let them trade it in for an OS 7 device. Making a phone that came out in 2010 obsolete by 2011 WTR.

Isn't that already what Android does every couple months? ..already Apple does yearly??
I'll be sure to complain to RIM to refund me my money for the 9930 when the QNX devices come out next year because my 9930 won't get BBX...

I can sort of understand the point being made.

the 9800 was unveiled with 6.0 software, which has not moved on at all...I believe all recent other phones have been able to last at least one full version of software ? i.e. 4 to 5 or 5 to 6 etc.

So its not unreasonable to expect a smartphone you buy one year will be given software updates the next... whats happened is someone can get a 9800 a few months before 9810 is released on 2 year contract and the device wont ever be updated...that's not good imo.

I gave my mate an old Blackberry 7290 and I think that's got OS4 or something. I have just got a Curve 9300 as an upgrade on my contract which runs OS6. I doubt that OS7 will become available for the Curve 9300 am not going to weep and wail about it, there's no point.

My Mrs has an iPhone 3GS which support has fell. 2 years ago it was the latest iPhone then Apple released the iPhone 4 and IOS4 and some of stuff like Facetime wasn't available and she has just upgraded to OS5 which takes in iPhone 4S and there's even less features are available for it.

Android is far too fragmented too many phones with too many versions.

There is a big price difference in my country so getting 9800 is more reasonable than getting 9810. Plus the OS7 still have a lot of un-compatible software overall.

I dont think the upgrading of phones are being offered anyway since one already in a contract.

Actually you are kinda misunderstanding right here apple gives its latest firmware for the last three models like 3gs got ios 5 and it doesn't make the previous models obsolete . Here in riyadh who will go for the 9800 when you can get 9810 just by paying 200 riyals ( 50 $ ) more
