| | Home Screen Shortcut Issue
I am a heavy user of home screen shortcuts on my BlackBerry Bold. I usually hide the messages, browser, tasks, memo pad, and other core icons on my device. To access them, I shut off the home screen dialing and I use keyboard shortcuts. For example, I use "m" to access my messages and "a" to access the address book.
This particular 5.0 release has thrown up some roadblocks. The carrier, AT&T, pushes down a handful of shortcuts with their service books. For example, they push down the Yellow Pages link and their own browser. I noticed that both of these - and a few others - share the same "b" shortcut as the built in BlackBerry browser. I kept hitting "b" and it would open up the direct link to the Yellow Pages download.
I found a workaround to get past this issue until they fix this future releases of the OS (or with the links sent down by AT&T). You need to put the icon you are trying to access at the end of the line in your home screen layout. The BlackBerry will open the last icon in the list if multiple icons share the same shortcut key. You could also put the other icons in a separate folder (I have these hidden too).
I hope this makes sense and helps others out.

PS: Does anyone know how to get the BB Maps icon to display? I know I can access BB Maps through Quick Launch or the BB Messenger by selecting "send location." However, I want the icon. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks in advance for your help. | ALL of your problems, shortcuts, maps, all solved by NOT using the att theme supplied with this build, remove it, all the old shortcuts work fine, like 'b' for browser and maps shows up.

I just tried that but I must have deleted the wrong theme. I deleted "net_rim_theme_102_zen_480x320_b" and I still have AT&T icons & no BB Maps. I guess I should have deleted "net_rim_theme_precision_zen_480x320_b"
Thanks, katiepea. I will give that a try.

Thanks, katiepea. I will give that a try. | you'll still get the att icons, they're pushed with service books, but maps should show up if you don't use the att theme, as you can clearly see from the posted picture above.

I did notice that with a smaller font size it appears the text doesn't word wrap correctly as some words are being cut off at the edge. |

OK...I think I found the culprit in my case....it may not solve every possible random reboot but for the last 4 hrs have had 0 reboots.
I had "Nice Office" as an app..which as I found out later was basically duplicating features that I had already put into place on here...this morning it got to the point of 6 random reboots in a little over an hour. Ditched the app...did hard battery pull...and as of now is running my 16 other apps like I expected it to in the first place...

How did you uninstall the AT&T theme? I manually removed the COD (net_rim_theme_102_zen_480x320_b.cod) using BBSAK. I still can't find the icon for Maps, however.
I looked in all of the folders and went through all (including those hidden) icons.

EDIT: Just downloaded 4.7 and still can't upgrade | Make sure you've deleted any prior OS installs on your PC. Go into control panel and then "add/remove programs" ("Programs and Features" on Vista). Hope that helps.

Formatting the Device Memory and Media Card seems to have cleared up the random reboot issue for me. Fingers crossed, but I haven't had more reboots or faux reboots (black screen, red light, momentary boot screen, then back to what I was doing) in the 3 1/2 hours since. Before it was a once per hour or more.
If my Profile Settings under the Other category would stop resetting after a reboot this would become a near flawless version for me.
