Anyway, I first tried running a DM restore from a backup I made just prior to installing .486. Everything appeard to run properly, but I've still got .486 on my Torch. I then tried to uninstall .486 from control panel on my PC before reinstalling .448. Got the following error during uninstall: error 2738:
Could not access VBScript run time for custom action.
Is it necessary to uninstall a current OS from a PC before installing a newer or older version? I've seen some say to uninstall, others say its optional, and still others don't mention it at all. If this error suggests any hiccups might be coming I'll gladly just stick with .486 | Firstly, your DM backups are your personal data & settings, not the OS. You could restore your previous backups onto your device regardless of your current OS or you OS at the time you made the backup. (If you did a full restore, you would lose any information since the time you created that backup. The backup would completely replace all your info.)
Next, uninstalling an OS via Control Panel on your PC means your uninstalling that OS from your PC, not your BB.
You shouldn't need to uninstall 486 before re-installing 448. (Obviously you will need 448 installed on your PC.)
I don't use DM for loading OS's to my device; I use the Loader method instead after only using DM to make a precautionary backup. On your PC, navigate to C/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Research in Motion/AppLoader and you'll find therein a file called Loader. (If your PC is 32-bit, you won't have the "(x86)" so just go via Program Files.) Double-clicking Loader gets you started. It should ask you to confirm you want to downgrade. If it does, you know everything is working for you. If it doesn't, and just wants to re-run the 486 load, you can cancel the process and uninstall 486 from your PC. With only 448 installed, Loader will definitely load 448 to your BB.
Of course, if you're sure you'll never need 486 again, then just uninstall from your PC first. No point in wasting the memory of your PC for something you'll never use again.
