Default Mac OSx Users - Installing the Leaked BB OS?

Is it possible to install a leaked OS with the BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Macs? If so, what process should I take to start loading the system onto my BlackBerry? (e.g. security wipes, backups, so on)

Not that I know of. You'll still need a Windows computer to update/install OS's.

You can also run Windows in a virtual machine on your Mac, or run Windows in a BootCamp partition.

Like Wine, Weather and Women, there is nothing like the real Windows for doing an OS upgrade. Ya just gotta have it.

Alright, I guess I'll wait until spring break when I can get home and use the desktop PC! Thanks!

I know that it IS possible, but I would not do it if I were you.

A lot of people bricked their phone by doing it.

But if you still wanna try it, a tutorial is on google.

I've done successful re-loads with the Mac, but I've never attempted to load a leaked version (not that I can, cause it's in exe format anyway XD) before. I can wait though, for an official release that I'll install when I go back home and have access to our PC. I'm in no rush.

I've tried using VMWare Fusion but I always can't get passed the part where the phone reboots. It loses the USB connection and cancels the entire process.

IIRC, it's not suppose to cancel. Whenever the VM needs to disconnect/reconnect, the install should hang until it reconnects, at this point it's where you should go reconnect the USB connection through the menu.

I inadvertently installed OS 6 onto my Sprint 9650 Bold. Here is my story... I was a previous PC user (when I originally purchased the 9650 I was using a PC). Now I have switched to mac. The other day, I backed up my 9650 to my mac and it said there were updates to install... so of course I did that. However, the updates also upgraded to OS 6.0 which I absolutely dread. I have backed up my 9650 to my mac.

I'd like to downgrade to OS 5.0 but don't know how. Should I just connect my 9650 to my old PC (that I still own) and will that allow me to downgrade to OS 5.0? My understanding is that I cannot upgrade (or downgrade) with my mac... whatever it is that I have (v6.0.0.415) I am stuck with. Any help is appreciated because my phone has become virtually unusable...

the main thread with upgrading OS... also has a thread for downgrading... no u cannot instlal OS's from mac ... i would suggest not to trust virtualization because it might stop conneciton and ur left with a nice brick...

use windows... get bbsak... wipe the OS in the phone and then install whichever OS5 u want to ...

I see... so am I screwed? The OS was installed from my mac. I didn't want to... it just did automatically. Can I just plug it into my pc and will it back up all the data even if the OS 6.0 was installed from my mac? I don't want to risk bricking this thing. Thanks

noo the simple steps are these:
- plug your phone into pc and back up all ur settings (desktop manager)
- uninstall OS6 if it is installed into the pc... and install OS 5 (the one compatible with ur phone)
- install BBSAK onto your pc ... and back up your 3rd party apps (there is a button called backup)
- then Wipe device (again button in bbsak)... and let it restart...
- now your phone after restarting will say Error 507 (dont panic)
- now u need to load ur OS 5 onto your phone which is done by going to the C:\programfiles\commonfiles\RIM\apploader\loader.e xe ... double click that (it should be there if u installed ur os5 on the pc correctly)
-follow the directions ... and install OS onto phone
- then plug in phone inside desktopmanager and restore ur saved settings... (mind u do NOT install system settings... that might cause a problem... only restore contacts, sms etc)
- bbsak > restore apps (which restores ur 3rd party apps... but NOT their settings... u will need to set them up ur way)

thats my simple guide on downgrading... do NOT try to mess with ur phone with a mac... trust me
