I did the update and still no luck, data services are not working over WiFi, such as BBM over Wifi. Dont understand why? If I take my SIM out of my Rogers 9860 and put it in my Rogers 9800 it works fine, I can shut the mobile radio off and im still connected to BIS through WiFi. The Blackberry logo in the top right will move beside the wifi signal indicator.

I get 50-85mb leak on .190 but on .205 I think it ease a little but still checking it out. While on battery. I think .190 is better than .205 IMO

    Hi,

I kind of feeling frustrated by this memory leak issue. Has been hoping by couple of OS version to at least ease of the issue, instead, it never improve.

I have done the wipe clean the OS until error 507(No OS), clean install, restoring from BlackBerry Protect, uninstall rarely used applications, shrink out some unuse modul.

The memory leak persist, losing 52 MB during 15 hours of normal use. Hope RIM realize it soon and done something with it.

memory drainage is still there. Approx 30-40mb down in a day. Why all builds of 7.1 have been memory drainer?

Has anyone actually allowed their device to stay on and run out of memory completely?

I'm not buying this memory leak thing, back in the OS5 days yes but not any more, and even then it was due mainly to badly written apps

As far as i can see yes memory slowly dips, but how do you know its not actually free and has been marked for re-allocation, does anyone know how memory management works on os7?

Running the device analyzer thingy mine drops over the first day or 2, then i assume once most my apps have been run it stabilises out and even climbs every now and then

Can someone with bad memory drain (i'm looking at you krypto or renzo) actually refrain from battery pulling and see if it eventually runs to 0

Stubbo, if I wait until it goes down past 100MB, I start seeing issues with the device. I get the spinning clock way more regularly, the device is more sluggish, and I get errors when trying to do things. Not to mention that the keyboard starts being a pain to work with.

I've also gone for 2-3 days without a battery pull an yes, the leak eventually slows an I can regain some memory, but it doesn't stop. I also know for certain that the messages app did have a memory leak in previous OSes.

Regardless, it isn't just what you think it is. And even if it wasn't anything, it still shouldn't happen. RIM also does eventully fix it as previous devices that have experienced memory leaks in the past inevitably get better in the later OSes. Not to mention that I haven't experienced this memory leak issue on my 9900, even though I had all the same apps and used the same SIM card and microSD card in the device.

So sorry, but with all due respect, I've looked into this much further than you have and I stand by my claim that there is a memory leak.

I actually appreciate your response there krypto, not very often on a forum you'd get an answer with evidence of full testing

I'll rephrase my previous answer, a leak may exist but doesnt seem to affect everyone

My stats are as follows after 2 days..

    Memory - 523.8 used/244.1 free (system 385.4/applications 138.4)
    Application Storage - 420 used/123.9 free (system 251.7/applications 60.6/other 107.6)

And its not moved from around this area for a while now!

Suppose this is the joy of testing a leaked os, never know whats gonna happen with them!

Battery seems as good as 190, and im now using auto off/on overnight for a few extra hours boost!

I agree with Krypto. On 7.0.585 I didn't notice my memory being chewed up like it is now. On .190 it was really bad, I could lose 30 MB's in 4 hours, and that was just with the browser, email, traffic and media functions used.

Now with the .205 it is better, I may lose 30-50 mb's per day and I have let it go, but as Krypto mentioned as soon as it drops to under 100MB's the keyboard cant keep up waith my key strokes, or I have to tap a key twice to get by. I usually don't reboot my device daily or every 2-3 days. I will leave it running and report back.

As for battery life, I found .190 was better than .585. With .190 i was losing on average 3.3%/hr. So far with .205 there are some hours where I am losing 11%. But still way better than my 9900. I wonder why there are memory leaks on this device, my 9900 was pretty stable.

    Hi Stubbo,

Thank you for your info and experiment on this issue. Actually i don't want to turn this thread to the other that already mentioning this issue, and i feel it still related.

Currently i'm losing 72 MB of memory from 21 Hours of usage. I never use the auto on/off feature, does it do a full shutdown and then auto on again according to the schedule set? if it does a full shutdown and then auto start every day, you are not going to experience the memory leak issue. Others users(1magine) has reported and done an extensive experiment and assume or pretty sure that the memory leak is caused by the Build in Media (Music Player, Video Player, Picture, Video, Camera, etc).

I have come to believe it, because the memory leak issue occur after you use the media applications, and after couple of hours after that, the memory drain drastically and keep going, it might regain some memory back like Krypto explained, but it does not help over all.

My statistic after 21 hours of usage :

    Memory - 493.5 used/274.4 free (system 355.5/applications 138.3)
    Application Storage - 426.9 used/117.0 free (system 252.3/applications 51.7/other 122.8)

Has anyone else had an issue with the phone randomly rebooting? On my all the 7.0 version no issues. I had this same issue with 7.1.0.190 and now 7.1.0.205. When I go back to the latest official Vodafone version 7.0.0.585 everything is fine. I just can't use the phone like this, it will reboot 4 - 5 times a day. It does not matter if I'm using it or not. It can be sitting on my desk, or i could be in the middle of sending a BBM. If anyone know any fix please let me know. There was no issue with the installs or any of the other 7.0 versions.

juice1179, I haven't seen that on my device. Did you install .205 straight, or did you shrink it first? I think I read in another thread that if you shrink out the Latin language files, it can trigger reboots. Not 100% certain though, but it might give a place to start.

As to the memory leak, I agree, its variable and not everyone experiences it, and its worse for some than others. I just wish I could figure it out, but for now, I've tried just about everything to try to locate the source and I still don't know, although I know of a few potential candidates.

Hmm....I checked it for myself personally on .205 just to make sure, so I'm wondering if it's somehow carrier dependant?? Unlikey I'm sure, but I really dont know, perhaps someone else may chime in. Or maybe if you can find someone on Rogers with a 9860 running .205 to test it for you. Sorry to hear this though. If we are running the same leak....on the same device...both on BIS....then that leaves only the carrier ***shrug***

Nope, don't have this issue and never heard of it either. Since you had it with both 190 and 205, then maybe you can try a device wipe and then install either one. I had 190 since it leaked to the day 205 leaked, and 205 to now, not once has the phone ever rebooted on its own. My wife has been running 190 since it leaked to now as well, no randon rebooting either.

    Good Luck!

so Stubbo, I left my device alone. Started 2 days ago at 169 MB free and now after about 60 hours I am down to 28 megs free.

    Application Storage. 514 used/28free
    Memory - 642.3 used, 125,6 free.

And battery life is a lot worse for me compared to .190. Using almost 1.5% more per hour, not sure if the memory leak is causing more issues. I am going to wait a few more days and then may downgrade.

Thanks for this, are you on BIS or BES? The person that had the issue lost functionality of bbm over wifi using a BIS plan.

I can no longer use 'K' to set the password lock from the home screen.

Edit: Update -- Oddly, it took two battery pulls to do it, but this function returned.

I have moved from 190 to 205 and done many battery pulls, memory leaks are bad but battery has settled in.

    - BBM over Wifi works fine here. 205 on Telus
    - I just installed BeJoose (on sale) to try to rectify memory leaks and it seems to be much better and smoother but testing over a few days is needed.

TTBGF, I can confirm that BBM works over wifi on BIS. If the other person was having problems, I'd be looking at other reasons.

Heres my stats so far, i've not done a battery pull/reboot since i posted previous stats...

(the stats from my previous post were after 2 days of use as well!)

    Memory: 504.2 used / 263.7 free --- system 376.6/apps 127.6/free 263.6
    App storage: 427.6 used / 116.3 free --- system 251.7/apps 60.6/other 115.2/free 116.3

I've used every app i have installed, and not held back or been careful at all!

No idea where memory leaks are coming from for others, very odd!

edit: just realised memory wise i've gained some back!

That is so weird. After I did my last reset I didn't even really touch my phone for a day and was still down 20 MB. I am trying to figure it out but there is no pattern.

In terms of battery life, that is sporadic at best as well. Yesterday was good, today I was on the phone and using FB, whatsapp and a few BBM's. Read a few articles on the CEO change and lost 20% in almost 2 hours. Between 10-11 i lost 14%. Never had that happen on .190.

Hi guys, looking for the 7.1.205 version for the 9860. Anyone still got a link that works? I just got this phone and still has the carrier version from telus (7.0.0.261) which sucks my battery dry in less than a day. I don't even use any social apps and barely anything else either. Wondering if its a dud.

.205 has been worst memory hogger, taking away 40-50mb in one day. making mandatory to reset everyday. Any solution to this? At this moment, seems no solutions since 7.0.0.585, .598 etc have battery bugs and OS7.1 has memory bug? which OS is the best? probably .540?
