Im not a pro at this but this just seems a little odd..
This is what I did. ( I dont know the current status of your phone so I would get back to a working platform before you continue)
I dont know if this did anything but I put .75 in its own folder and I put .83 in its own seperate folder in my Blackberry storm folder in my C drive.
-Went to the advanced portion of the Backup/ restore in DM
-Cleared the Browser Cashe
-Backed up my device. Via DM
-Disconected my device
-Downloaded .83
-Restarted my computer
-Made sure no internet was connected or had any weather plugins running (just incase)
-Ran .83 on my computer
-Disconnected my device from the network (that way no texts/calls/emails would disturb anything)
-Plugged in my device
-Ran DM
-Went to Application loader Via DM
-Clicked update sofware
-The screen that DonNguyen just posted showes up
-Check the box for .83
-I chose to do the advanced instal and instal what I wanted as far as programs and such.
-Ran the Update
-Let the phone set there for ever. (not really its only like 20ish mins)
-Dont worry about it, just dont touch any thing untill DM says it was successfull
-Let the phone sit there for a minimum of 1min ( I always let it sit for 2mins)
-Pull the battery
-Once rebooted, re-connect your phone to the network
-Dial *228 to make sure you have the most up to date roaming capabilites.
-Go to options>about and look at the new software
-Back out and enjoy.
Notes-
-I did not wipe. (Didnt have time, will do it later, phone has 52m with VZnav, visual voicemail and all the usless language crap gone. Phone also has softreset, beyond411, bblite, and password keeper on there)
-Phone ran very smoothly on .65 as well as .75 and now with .83 ( I never had all the issues you guys have. Soo happy coming from many WM phones and there friggin bugs! This is my first BB)
-Phone did not need more than one batt pull
-Phone did not hang in any part of the instal
-Phone really likes .83 so far (been on for about 5 hours, in which my batt life has only dropped 20% at moderate use?)
-*228 is not required, just somthing I like to do
-The browser ICON comes back when you re-connect the phone back to the network.
-So far the phone has no memory leak....YEA
Good luck
And if you cant figure it out... Everything is in this thread....Well thats where I got it from anyway.. BTW- When your doing things like this, if you have any doubts. For god sakes, read the directions fully and go one step at a time, not skipping any. My first few times I did this (a few years ago on WM phones) I took notes and just went from one step to the next, reading it word for word. Most times, I dont even need to join the forum and post to figure it out. I just like to, that way I can atleast say THANK YOU......
As for wiping...Oh I know its better IMO, because there are certain things specifially for the out dated software that the new software cant use. It gets left over during the update, taking up much needed space. It doesnt "hurt" anything, its just makes it so fresh and so clean clean.. I didnt wipe on the .75 leaked version, **** I didnt even try the official .75, and I think ill try this one out with out wiping too, Ill monitor it and see how much of a difference it gives. But I may just wipe on the next update. I think with my phone being at 52m, with the programs I have added probably make up most the difference between the (I think) average of 58ish megs after instal? Ill let ya know if it crashes for its first time since I have had it...
