as of right now, my blackberry tour 9630 has been superb.. it has none of the problems that you would typically see being posted on these forums.. i mean.. it has worked flawlessly for me

however, i am 5.0 curious and sitting at the installation prompt running through the pros and cons of installing .230 (using DM) contemplating whether i should or shouldnt

so here i am, asking for your help..
convince me to go .230 by telling me why its superior to 4.7 or convince me to stay with vzw's 4.7 os by telling me bugs currently found in .230 that have no fixes (such as the rolling restarts ive been reading about, missing icons, etc.)

Pretty sure I've heard of random restarts on official OS 4.7.1, not just OS5...

ive searched before even downloading 5.0 and ive read some people's phone restarting every 3 min.

as for the os i currently have (4.7.140) no restarts yet

I upgraded to the hybrid yesterday

I really like the threaded SMS but that is about it other than little bit of optimized speed.

Few added options here and there but I really don't know why people are so hyped up about this new OS

Maybe I haven't found all the features...

Its fast...lol...most common bug is the media player, where if you play a song, first song will play all the way through, second song will play, marker will show the track time, but no sound. In order to get that song running, u have to stop, and select "play" again.

Im running .230 and it is leaps better than 4.7, I dont have a single issue with it and it well worth the upgrade. Do it, plain and simple.

Correct me if im wrong someone but i believe thats what the Hybrid does, it fixes any little bugs by placing files from previous Os's and places it on the OS you want to use...no sure if it fixed that though>

Currently the hybrid does not fix the media player issue. I still have to stop and play for the second song

downloaded os 5.0.0.230
installed
opened DM with latest version (5.0.1)
and now the prompt is up to update os 5.0 as well as core apps

i can just upgrade through that right?

I wouldn't say it's a big mistake to upgrade, but, you have to know it could go badly, and Verizon isn't gonna help you.

Probably because you don't have to deal with the "552" error bullsh*t after every battery pull with OS 5.0.

The 552 error is caused by the OS not being initialized properly. This could happen if you say NO when the blackberry says 'The BB has to restart restart now?'

The only possible option when you get 552 is to get rid of the application that is causing the problem. Sometimes it is not so simple and you need to reload the OS.

There are rumors that OS 5.0 apparently fixes this problem and there are no people reporting 552 on OS 5 so far.

for far with .230, i noticed i dont have tasks and memo apps, i also dont have the option to reload it. anyone else experience this? i tried retoring the backup files twice.. didnt work

Actually we're talking about OS 4.7 giving you the 552 error after downloading apps and then pulling the battery to reset it. Everyone that this has happened to that switched to 5.0, including myself, says it hasn't happened again. I had to reload my stuff twice within 2 weeks because of this and finally installed 5.0 and it works great.

btw this is a noobish question.. but when i load the new os.. are all the emails/sms/contacts will still be available?
i have some pretty important emails in my inbox as well as my sms.. and i dont feel like typing all my contacts from a-z

Backup your contacts/messages/settings thru Desktop Manager on your computer, then visit this forum http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/upda...updated-53201/ for directions on backing up your applications. After that you should be good.
