Default Enterprise Activation after OS Install

RIM newb here. Just went from .320 to .428 hybrid on my storm 2 on Verizon. Afterwards I had to go through Enterprise Activation again. I did not do a security wipe beforehand thinking it would backup everything and then restore after the upgrade. I'd like to try a couple of other hybrids, but don't want to do an activation after each one as our BES admin sets a temp password for the authentication and I don't want to keep bugging him to do this.

DO you only have to perform an activation after going up versions (.320-->.451) but not after only just updating the java folder, i.e., hybrids on the same base?

i think that every time you do an OS upgrade you have to re actiivate it(you need a new password)

I'm not sure about the Storm 2, but with the latest upgrade on my 9000, from 5.0.0.411 to .464, for the first time ever I didn't have to reactivate enterprise. I always had to before when I installed a new OS, even when I didn't do a wipe. I'm hoping that's a new feature.

I am the BES admin for my company. What I do for my Tour is do a full backup using the Desktop Manager, then do a "Wipe" using BBSAK. After I reload the OS, I restore the Desktop Manager backup and the phone will automatically start a re-activation. I could reset my password and reactivate if I needed to, since I am administrator, but I almost never have to. This is with BES Server 4.1. I think the 5.0 OS software may have some type of reactivation option or something because it seems like I have never had to reset my password and reactivate myself since upgrading.

Not trying to start an argument but I still don't understand why people do this. The normal BB upgrade process automatically does a full backup including apps, then a wipe, reload, and finally a restore.

For me, it's mostly peace of mind. I just feel like it does a better upgrade if I wipe it with bbsak. Any time I've upgraded without wiping and had issues, a full wipe and load fixes it. Can't explain why, don't know, don't care. Sort of the same reasoning as to why performing a battery pull a few times helps a new OS settle. Couldn't explain why it might do that, but it seems to work.

To the op - if you are on the company vpn, plug in your bb and start dm. EA happens automatically every time.

Same thing here. I've had problems before with the automatic process, whereas the manual process works just fine.

I had a curve 8520 with OS 4.6 (corporate phone) with BES. I tried to upgrade to 5.0.0.411.Steps i followed: full backup, wipe with JL, load the new OS with loader.exe and then restore the backup. The result is that i stopped receiving my corporate emails and of course i couldnt do the enterprise activation.I send the phone to my IT dept and they reactivate it.I also read various threads saying that every time you do an OS upgrade, you loose the emterpise activation(one time password) and you need a new password from the IT dept.

I have not wiped the device when upgrading but noticed that when I upgraded OS using Desktop Manager - it did not require new Enterprise activation PW - i re-activate itself based on the info stored. However when I used Loader.exe - it did request activation PW.
