| | deleted both vendor.xml files, still unable to update os
I followed the same process to install os 6.0.0.666 and all other os6 leaks for the 9700 and it worked fine, however I am trying to install .706 and I'm having the can't find update issue. I really don't wana remove dm and the os installs if I don't have to. Has rim put another vendor like file somewhere in the cpu filesystem.I deleted both vendor files, one in the program files and the other in the user/appdata folder.. I am running win 7 and am no stranger to installing leaked os's. Anyone have any inisght? I read somewhere about 'compatability files" in the app loader dir but can't see it there...I have my folder settings to view all files andhave preformed 2 searches one from explorer and the other from the command prompt and haven't found any vendor.xml files. I also cleared my temp folder in both my win account and the admin account. I even went so far as to disable my wireless adapter....(Even tho I. Was using loader.exe and not dm :s).....insight/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

What happens when you try to install exactly?
Does it say you can't find the files or what?

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | No error, In app loader it only lists my currently installed 3rd party apps. Doesn't list any os versions or os files.
Essentially, dm and app loader are both not even seeing an update for the device..

ok here's a kicker.....I thought I would give this a try on my wifes laptop.....well it worked no problem. Now she is running windows vista where as I am running win 7. I deleted the vendor file from the app loader folder but found a pretty much blank vendor xml file in the xml loader folder in the users/appdata folder...here is the contents of the vendor.xml file:
<vendorsrc version="0.0.0.0">
</vendorsrc>
I found a post yesterday about this working for someone else and tried it on my machine and it didn't work. The odd thing is when I looked in my xml loader folder the vendor file was 500 or 800k it was crazy.....in my wifes xml loader folder it was already this essentially blank vendor xml....the post where i found the above lines of xml stated he manually changed the file and not that he discovered it like that....
Interesting developments...I am going to copy that same xml to my machine and see if it works...it might have been the encoding on the file but I doubt it as I do alot of php coding I make sure my encoding doesnt have whitespace at the top of any file I create....worth I shot I suppose, will post back here with results...in the mean time...im finally loading .706...all be it even if its on my wifes laptop.....

You have to install one OS.
If you did you have to check you registry:
Start - prompt - regedit - HKLM - software - Research in motion - Apploader - searchpaths - there you see number. When you click on this number you have to see on the right the version number you installed.
If there are more numbers under Apploader you have to delete them.
This will solve your problem.

I dont have that path within my registry....no RIM folder following HKLM>Software....found a RIM folder in HKCU but nothing about apploader there...I searched the registry and the only references to ANY os installs where the installer packages...
EDIT: Ok i found searchpaths was in software/wow6432node.....
There is nothing under search paths...I checked my wifes laptop and it does list the .706 under searchpaths...I am going to try and reinstall and see if that works...
Edit #2: Ok reinstalled and it put the reg info under search paths...I was about to copy the key from my wifes laptop and put it in my reg...it had the same installation key and searchpaths so it would of worked....Looks like the installer just goofed...I have confirmed it works with loader.exe now and is recognizing the .706 installation directory...thanks for your input.

It is either one of 2 things: vendor files or registry information.
If you have already deleted both vendor.xml files, and its still not working, verify in your registry that the version you are trying to install is under the searchpaths key. If it isnt try reinstalling your OS...maybe try right clicking and select run as admin....
I would suggest reading the above...

I've been having this problem now, its very frustrating, I've deleted the vendor file, I've downloaded and used those vendor file programs that just came out, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the OS, rebooted my laptop...I'm running out of options on what to do now. and here's the registry...

If you are using desktop manager, disconnect your internet and try again, however seeing how you have only 1 os installed on your box I would suggest using loader.exe.
(32 bit)
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\loader.exe
(64 bit)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\loader.exe
hope that works

I don't have desktop manager installed in my Win7 partition, I have WDP installed too so I have it installed there...I pretty much always use loader.exe to load OS's well until recently, I had to play around to get DM to see 706 in Win7 and i was able to install it that way once and then after that its a no go even using loader.exe. I was trying to load a hybrid now, but thats not happening cus it doesn't see the OS... I wanted to update my daughters 9800 and my friends 9900, but it looks like that might not happen either. So as far as i know both vendor files are gone, theres one entry in the registry and nothing is working
