Beta upgrade path Verizon 8830

At the risk of appearing to have not read the posts....(I really have, but...)

Is there any GOOD reason why I can't seem to upgrade directly from 4.2.2.176 to 4.5.0.77? Issues I am having which forced me back to 4.2.2.196 included:

• Lost ring tones...tried the net_rim_...qualcomm.cod rename, but that file doesn't exisit in 4.2.2.196
• 4GB media card errors...reformatted in Windows, then via BB Options, recopied media from source files, still got error. Went away when I downgraded.
• No html on fresh emails. Tried to re-download service books. Surprise! They weren't there. (This was after a complete wipe and fresh install of .77, so that may have been it).

Any input? If the answer is that I need to upgrade in a certain order, I'm up for it, but I need a little guidance on the exact order.

Yes, amd I followed it to the letter including the vendor.xml, etc.

I do not have a 8830 but I upgraded my coworkers and it was a HUGE pain. My curve went like silk with no issues.

I googled for the qualcomm file and that worked to get is ringers and vibrate back. I have had issues where I had to restore a device multiple times in order to get it to work. His e-mail was still a giant issue as it took sending the service books like 4 times before it went through.
