I was able to shrink an updated software bundle on my computer, but Im running BES and would rather update the software when im with my BES Administrator since I will need them to reactivate my BES account following the software update.

In the mean time, i would link to shrink my os because ive got only 20MB free, and my phone keeps on freezing (only google maps and gtalk are installed as 3rd party apps.

My 9700 is running v6.0.0.615, and trying to use bb boss to do some shrinking on the phone. However, when I try, it says could not connect to device.

What am I missing ?

There are a couple of programs that RIM runs in the background that hook the phone when it's plugged in. Ctrl+Alt+Del and bring up task manager, then find the 2 programs that have RIM in the description. They are something like RIMDevMgr.exe or something. I posted them a while ago in an update. Kill those tasks and then you'll be able to connect and proceed.

I am also including a link to my settings. Just download this link to your system and select "Import Settings" from the file menu. navigate to the folder containing the settings file you downloaded and you'll have the same settings that I use on my T-Mobile 9700. It will cover most people and get you to about 95MB free prior to any third party apps being installed.

Thanks to everyone for your patience and understanding with the last release. Your excitment and support for this project is at keeping it fun and interesting.
Kudos +1 for your work on this program for the BB Community.

Updated my 9700 to OS6 and as with the lack of RAM continually came up with lag. After much research (here & Google) i used your setting - as provided and have gained up to 98MB after shrinking - on the phone.

Now running:
BB App World 3
FB
Google Maps
Google Talk
QuickPull
One Touch Flashlight
BB Protect
Photo Studio Camera +
WRC
XE Currency
Gmail
Opera Mini
Photo Studio: Editor

Is it able to do this on the fly or I should pre-shrink the os and install?

There has been numerous report that the startup videos are embedded on the phone flash memory hence my question.

That is a confusing part. I don't know which COD it is. Maybe shrink before loading would be a good idea, but if it messes up, reinstall the device software using the Repair option and try again.

Blackberry 9700 with os6 installed. Always wanted to get more space out of my old bb. I bumped into this thread this morning and couldn't be any happier.

Installed the BB boss 2.2 and DM(found out it is the blackberry manager/desktop software)

Clicked on the "Direct Shrink" button. Popped up a Connection failure.
Opened up my task manager and ended the Rim.. process.

Clicked on Direct Shrink button again and it worked.
But kinda froze on the Access your phone part. Not sure if it froze or not, but it was loading like forever. Heard someone froze at this part so i assume it's a froze.

Terminated the BB boss and boom my phone is dead with an error 507.

Spent the whole afternoon fixing my beloved BB.

Gonna come back when the final version of BBBoss comes out.

Direct shrink takes a long time. What did you try to shrink out?

Hello Jeff. I downloaded BB Boss 2.2 and made a donation thru PayPal. My registration code is DB18AD8B. I have yet to receive my activation key to register. Can I start to shrink now or do I need to wait for the key? My second question, because I'm new at this, is that I have a Bold 9930 ver .267 installed. I should be able to just plug in my phone, click those things I'd like to shrink and then click "Direct Shrink on Phone" and the program will then shrink the OS on my already installed phone correct? Thank You

Hello all. I downloaded the program, checked off the items I didn't want and then pressed the Direct Shrink on Phone. It asked me for my device password, I clicked ok and it almost immediately said "connection failed" and wouldn't let me do anything but click ok. Does anyone have a clue why this is happening. I have my device plugged in and Desktop manager is open and connected to my phone. I have a Bold 9930 with .267 on the device.

Edit: been checking this thread and it seems that DM should be off (which mine now is=no help); drivers not recognized-not the problem and lastly- USB cable not for communicating, again not the issue. Any other ideas why it will not connect??

Desktop manager should be closed, open task manager, (click or check off "show processes from all users"), kill any RIM or BB processes, then unplug and re-plug in your blackberry and launch bb boss again. Any microUSB cable will work as long as it doesn't have a controller hub with buttons in between both ends (some do).
