My brother's Bold 9000 on BBOS 5 was unlocked and he has switched to Koodo: despite following the directions of tech support, he has been unable to get any data services on his BB9000. He can of course make and receive phone calls.

Here are the instructions I transcribed from the tech support call... can anyone see any 'gaps' that might be keeping the data features from working?

go into options
look for device
advanced system settings
host routing table

once in; click the Blackberry "menu" button; on the menu, "Register Now"

It should say "Registration Message has been sent".

also go into TCPIP (just below Host Routing Table)

Make sure that the APN is "enabled"; the APN is supposed to be bb.koodo.com

If that fails, with phone turned on remove battery and sim card... leave out for 30 seconds, and reassemble.

Also, go into manage connections, make sure that the WiFi is off and data is on, to ensure you have cell data

in "manage connections" there is "turn all connections off"... that will disconnect phone from the network, then "restore connections"

Go into "Firewall" and make sure that it is disabled.

If Koodoo has everything set up on their end, make sure WiFi is off, and on the 9000's browser, go to www.blackberry.com/integrate

That should register you on the BB Wireless network.

Thanks for this... unfortunately, he doesn't have data at all. I think when I can get my hands on the phone for a while I may be able to do something for him.

Ive got the same issue with my unlocked 9000 on tmobile's network in the US. I spent a 45 minutes earlier with a tech via instant messaging basically changing all those options you mentioned but it still doesnt give me BIS. Calling still works, like you. Texting works. BIS does not. Quite frustrating.

Do let me know what you figure out. Also because I dont have BIS gmail wont sync and so none of the people who are texting me have names..
