    Will upgrading to 4.5 on my Alltel Curve give me Wi-Fi capability, or is that a hardware difference between Alltel and say, T-Mobile?

    There is no wifi capability on the 8330. It is hardware based.

    Upgrading will not give you wifi, it is in the hardware. I think that the XX20 berrys are the ones with wifi
