I was wondering if anyone has ever used a Verizion BB as an Alltel phone. I know they use the same CDMA and are now one company (soon). My question pertains to the idea of getting a Storm when it is released and using it with an Alltel data plan. I would have to get an unlocked phone $$$ but the cost of the unlimited data plan would be cheaper. Any ideas?
I don't have a definitive answer for you, but this is what I've picked up from the forums: while CDMA carriers use the same technology, it's up to the carrier whether they'll activate a phone from another provider. Which I was able to do a few years back with a Sprint Treo to a Verizon plan.
But my understanding is that Alltel won't activate other telco's phones. That may changed as their merger with Verizon recently got the DOJ's approval.
