I'm new to Blackberry and my e-mails are coming in quite slow? Is that a carrier issue or a problem with the e-mail itself?

Couldn't say. You don't really give much information.

If I happen to register with someone, such as crackberry, I get a quick response in my e-mail inbox. If my wife e-mails from her Pearl from her e-mail to mine, it takes several minutes. does that help?

It helps but not enough conclude anything.

What email service are you using (gmail, hotmail, blackberry)?
    How slow is slow?
Is your wife also on Alltel?
What email service is she using?
What about other email messages? Or is it only between you and your wife?

We are both with Alltel, and both have an embarqmail.com e-mail (which is our local phone service carrier). It takes 10-15 minutes to get messages. I use Outlook on my personal CPU at home. Would that have anything to do with it?

15 minutes is normal. It can take up to 20 minutes for some servers. And depending on the volume of email you get also affects the speed you get your email. More email you get, the more the mail is polled from the server for new email.
