I know the SIM card is to store information right? What is the purpose for it on a BB if you can just back up your information on the computer with a Sync? I have the Storm.
No... a SIM card. I used to have a SIM card on my Nextel so you could save all of your info and transfer it between phones. The SD card is the memory card. I'm talking about SIM.
On GSM phones (T-Mobile, AT&T, Rodgers, Vodafone, etc) the SIM card is what allows the phone to connect to the cellular network under the appropriate phone number. So when I take my T-Mobile SIM card out of my 8320 Curve and put it into my 8707v, my phone number is now associated with the 8707v.
CDMA phones (Verizon, Sprint, Alltel) don't use SIM cards for their native networks. Those carriers do have some hybrid phones (the 8830 and the Storm 9530, for example) which are native CDMA phones, but have a slot for a SIM card so that they can connect to GSM networks when their native CDMA networks are unavailable (in Europe, for example, where GSM coverage is widespread but there are virtually no CDMA networks).
