What exactly are they? I hear people saying to send them to your phone sometimes. I know how to send them, but what exactly are they anyways?

They hold the information for the carrier and thus provide service / features on your BlackBerry. Without these, you get no email!

    Question, if I may:

    My Berry was originally Cingular.

I now use it in a different country with a different simcard.

The device itself gets registered with a GPRS network, gets its HRT Tables, and works fine with every app that can do TCP / Direct Connect.

BES / BIS / MDS would not work without Service books, which I currenty have none, indeed.

Sending those from the Cingular Blackberry website would not help.
Is there any other way to get email functionality working?

    Thanks in advance

You should be getting the service books from YOUR carrier!
