newbie needs to know how to get more than 5 icons to display on the main screen

i always have to scroll down to 'applications' in order to view the rest of my icons

so two ?s: is there a way to put more than 5 on the main screen?

and is there a way to make the icons bigger?

Hello

. Change your theme (in options) so that all the icins are like what you're wanting.

. Not sure if there is an option to make icons larger, not for my 8700, though.

if you go to options/themes and select the icon theme and there is no options to make the icons bigger only way is to download a new theme

It's definately your theme. Depending on which os you have, you can upload apps from the app folder to the desk top, just click and drag to the up icon.
