    Default Newbie intro/BBM question

I never made a newbie post, so here I go. After having an old curve about four years ago, I'm back with a 9930 on tmobile. Not the fastest internet, but I have wifi all over so no biggy. Price was right. They keyboard with it's shortcuts is wonderful. I've been playing with a few apps to add/change the default shortcuts, and I don't know how I ever lived on a touch screen only phone.

I've had my playbook since November and love it. I was persuaded initially by the sale, thinking it could be an ereader/web browser. But I use that tablet for everything now! Having a bleutooth keyboard has been great for taking notes in class.

I do have one big question though. BBM seems to be like a really cool feature that I'm missing out on. I was reading a post in the forum the other day, where someone asked what made BBM so special. Many people chimed in about how it is more of a platform than just a message service. The thing is, without any other friends with a Blackberry, does BBM just turn into a twitter type social network with different pins to follow/chat with? I mean I could go around the forums looking for different pins, but I have a hard enough time keeping up with my facebook. And what are different BBM groups, how do they differ from chatting with individuals? Lastly, are there any advantages to taking over a lot of my friends' phone numbers and texting through BBM instead?
