I am new to BlackBerry, CrackBerry, and BlueTooth Headsets!
I have had a couple of smartphones over the last few years but just got my first BlackBerry last week. I see where the CrackBerry terms comes from! I love this thing so far.
I never have thought much about getting a bluetooth headset until I realized this thing could send podcast audio to a wireless headset. I have read around in these forums and found that the Jabra BT8040 would do what I was looking for so I got one this weekend. It does do what I was looking for but I just can't hear it well enough. It's loud enough for a real quite place in the house but not taking calls going down the road. (not for me anyway but I can't hear that well)
I don't care about true stereo but just want to listen to podcasts. I saw that there is a Plantronics device that does this but has a second ear piece. Is there another A2DP single piece that works for listening to media that anyone has tried that may have more volume than the Jabra BT8040?
Thanks in advance and I love my new Verizon BlackBerry 8330 and have loved reading CrackBerry.com!
I have read all that I can find here about bluetooth headsets and think I've gotten mixed at some of what I've read because I've read so much! I thought I read in there that someone else had problems hearing the BT8040 also but don't remember what they switched to. It looks like the BT8010 will do what I'm talking about but has a piece for each ear instead of one. I don't know if it will still work for audio if the second piece were unplugged. I also wonder if it will go louder than the BT8040.
Also, never having a wireless headset, I like being able to get it locally like at BestBuy so that I can take it back easily. Well, I hope I can take this BT8040 back today! I haven't found the BT8010 locally.
Alot of companies have a return policy for Bluetooth Headsets saying that you cant return them for sanitary reasons. But hopefully the place where you bought it doesnt have that policy.
Just FYI on taking one back to Best Buy... They took the BT8040 back no questions. I asked about the sanitary thing but they said it wasn't a resell item so it didn't matter. They didn't carry any other A2DP types in the store though so I'm still looking!
Just in case anybody else ever asks. The Jabra BT8010 is much louder than the BT8040. I got my BT8010 set in the mail yesterday and there is no comparrison as far as loudness. It is a lot bigger than the BT8040 but small isn't any good is you can't hear it at all. The ability to plug in the second ear piece could be nice for listening to music but the phone sound and music streams to the single ear piece as well if you do not have the second piece plugged in.
I just purchased a BT8040 today (won't receive until Monday)
a.) I just wanted to give you a heads up that in my searches for info on it I found several references to a piece of plastic that covers the mic when it is shipped, you must remove this yourself.
b.) Another reviewer returned his for a second unit he claimed was significantly louder.
