general question here. If my wife and I both have BB Bolds, can I install a downloaded app on both of them or do I need to pay twice for the same app?
Many apps base their "unlock" key on the phones pin #. Since the phones have different pin #'s buying one copy will only work on 1 phone. You can always ask the software vendor if they will allow you to register 2 copies with one purchase.
I think that Joe is right, they are usually specific to the PIN on the phone. It's worth a try though, it might depend on the app, you can try to use the desktop manager and application updater function.
