Since I ran out of room on my phone after about ten pictures and 15 ringtones, can someone explain how exactly a microSD card will help?

Also, is there any sort of compilation of troubleshooting tips for the blue hourglass? It's not too common with my phone, but it's there about 75% of the time I'm in Google Maps.

    Thnx!

You've already diagnosed your issue. You need a SD card so all the memory being used to store your media can help improve performance on the device.

Google maps has an hour glass a lot, but to reduce the loading times, the getting an SD card and putting all your media would definitely help. 4gb are cheap, with 4.5 OS, you can have 8gb. Some have reported 16gb with the .81 build. I'm not sure.

Running out of space is a very common problem.

Installing a media card will be a big help. After you install the card, you can use Media Center / Explore to move your existing pictures and ringtones to the card.

The next step is to free up the reserved memory on the device.

Media Center / Options. Set your Device Memory Limit to the lowest setting. That will 12 Mb on v4.2xx or 5 Mb on v4.5xx. Set Reserved Picture Memory to 0 Mb, you no longer need to reserve device memory.

That will increase your available memory by a lot.

    There are further increases available.
