I just got my hands on the SanDisk 16GB micro SD card. Will my bold recognize it and what is "Formatting"? I had an 2GB and I must have about 100 pictures on it and every time I go and see how much storage I have used it still say 1.8GB. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Well if you have the card and Bold in your hands the easy answer is 'try it and see what happens'. You won't do any harm, worst case is the card is ignored. I think it will work.

Check your OS...ALT+Shift+H to check the OS... I believe the Bold runs some thing in the 4.6 range, so it should handle a 16G memory card:

BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.0 Up to 2GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 Up to 4GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2 Up to 4GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.3.0 Up to 8GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0 Up to 8GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.5.0.81 and above Up to 16 GB
BlackBerry Device Software 4.6.0 Up to 16GB

Most times you should not have to format your SD card... I would just insert it and see what happens like branta said.

I just received my 16GB Sandisk MicroSDHC card and completely filled it with 127 movies and I've had zero issues with this memory card (Pearl 8100 OS v4.5.0.69).
I thought I might, especially since the speed rating was Class 2 but it doesn't have any speed issues or freaking out. Very solid! Then I bought another for my daughter's Nintendo DS DSTT cartridge and loaded 319 games and two movies on it and still have about 3GBs free. The new Sandisk 16GB MicroSDHC card rocks! I paid around $97 (dollars not pounds) for it on a UK web site by the name of 'memorybits' something or another.
