I may just be thinking about all my inferior phones, but is there anyway to make the back light (not just the LED) come one when I recieve a message? I'm just not used to looking for the LED. Thanks!

Not that I'm aware of, but I'm sure you know there are multiple settings for each message. I would suggest putting vibrate and ring on and a loud alert. Of course mine's always in my pocket so I don't miss any..

I usually do get them, but when I'm in class or have it next to me and have to have the vibe off, I like the light that catches my attention

Buy an 8220. When the device is closed and you receive a message, the external display lights up and a notification pops up with a preview.

PeekaWho or Aerize email alerts will turn the screen on and give you a pop up with mail/sms details, pic and first line or so of the mail. I'm trialing peekawho now - works a treat.
