I have had a Sprint 8830 less than 24 hours and am trying to "make it mine". One of the things I have done with previous phones is to assign custom ringers to special people so I know who is calling when the phone is in the holster and I am using bluetooth.

In older BBs you could edit a contact and assign a custom ringtone. This option does not appear on my 8830.

Now I know I can do it by using a custom profile and an exception but that is a lot of work to accomplish the task. Is there an easy way?

Go into your contact folder. Click on the contact that you wish to add the custom tune for then click on edit and then the button to the left of your trackball. You will see an option to Add Custom Phone Tune.

Also check here. It's not listed in the screenshots, but you can add 'execptions' in the profile section...

Awesome, this newbie bows down to those who are blazing the path.

Seriously, the manual is weak and without folks like you contributing the true capabilities of these beauties is left unfulfilled.

    Hi Navilyn,

    I'm new to this site.
I don't know if you would help me on this matter.
I have a BB 8703e (from Sprint) but don't know how to add some custom ringtones to it.
    Please advice.
    Thanks!

Thuynh, do you have a data package? If yes, browse to said website for ringtones from the device itself. From there you should be able to save tones...

    Navilyn,
I do have data package but don't know what you meant by going to said website for ringtones.
These are my custom ringtones in mp3 I used to use on my phone and now want to send to my 8703e but don't know how to send and save.
    Thanks

    Now you tell me...

You'd need to save them to a website somewhere (there are plenty of free hosting websites), and then browse to said website from your device...

    Make sense, clear as mud?

You know what, you're killing me - LMAO

As an example, from your BlackBerry, browse to http://www.navilyn.com/hosting/grind.mp3 - can you get that track? If yes, then we'll go to the next step...

Ps: Water can be muddy sometimes...

You can do a Google search for free hosting websites. But, as an example, try: Free Web Hosting Services -- 50megs.com - I've not used them myself, since I have my own, but...

shnookie04, please don't stray away from the original post. If you have an issue, post it in a seperate post, and we can all assist...

Ps: if you don't want to receive emails on your Blackberry, period, remove the email account in BIS (unless you're connected to BES)! To discuss this further create a thread with your issue...
