Have you tried to shrink the OS, I am not sure that it works with hybrids, but that is another way to remove them. Also, depending how familiar you are with the Os, you could navigate the actual files on the computer and then delete the one containing them.

I heard I can remove them with bbsak so I would have to reinstall the OS if I use the bbsak ?

I think we've pretty much documented the heck out of this over and over again.
BEFORE YOU LOAD THE OS DELETE THE FOLLOWING TWO FILES:
net_rim_bb_medialoader_360x480_t.cod
net_rim_bb_medialoader_backgrounds_360x480_t.cod

I searched, didn't find a solution to part of the original question, why does file scout not allow you to get into the system folder? I don't like removing all the preloaded ringtones-there are about 5-8 ringtones that I use, how do we go about manually deleting the ones we dont want?

It's because FileScout hasn't been updated to work with 5.x yet.
And what I told you guys to do above DOES NOT DELETE THE RINGTONES. It just deletes the Sample wallpapers, which no one uses anyway.

| net_rim_bb_medialoader_360x480_t.cod << When I deleted this before, it in-fact did get rid of the ringtones....hence the reason I don't remove it anymore.

I've been deleting the 2 cod files I told you for each and every build I've installed on my phone. Never had issues with the ringtones... you made a mistake somewhere.
I've been doing this for a while, dunno about you.

i can also agree that this is standard practice and all ring tones remain on the phone.

Nobody said you were "yelling." Not sure why I visit this site anymore, every "help" team member seems to have an attitude problem whenever someone needs help, not to mention an "I'm better than you" problem. Now I see why people at BBOS complain about the people on here. Guess I'll stay there from now on since I have yet to see any probems from their team members or anyone else for that matter.

I'm on a bold running .238 and i don't have the background file listed in bbsak but i still have the wallpapers on my bb. Is it possible there's another cod that needs to be deleted? And maxmem could't find the files to delete them.

And maxmem could't find the files to delete them. | That's because you loaded the OS without deleting the cod file first, so the wallpapers were already extracted to the system folders. Per the writeup I made for freeing up memory by deleting the above listed files, I indicate that the cod files MUST be deleted PRIOR to installing the new OS. Also, you can't just wipe and reinstall as if you're not changing OS versions it won't properly delete the files. You'll need to downgrade, then upgrade again, but be sure to delete the cod files during both install cases. Once that's done, the files will be gone off the device.

Ever since I switched to Windows 7, I've had difficulty with the search function.
