I recommend changing the theme to BlackBerry6 by Research In Motion. It seems to me that the theme developer failed to use anything but the VERY old BB Millbank font for their banner elements which, if one is trying to emulate OS7, is not a good choice.
To do a system read, grab BBH Tool, unzip it on your PC. Plug in your BB, open up BBH Tool, go to the Phone Tools panel, hit Connect, then hit Read under File System. Once the read is done, hit Save As and save the read as a text file. | I honestly wiped my phone completely, and installed your hybrid over the base .723 OS like recommended. I didn't install any themes. Unless it was put on there by one of my apps? Odd...
OK, I just realized when I restored my settings, I left the Themes checked. Woops! That is most likely it. I forgot to uncheck that, and since the other parts of the theme were probably gone, it didn't mesh well. I installed a new theme, and everything is OK now.
Sorry for the false alarm! Thank you for the quick responses, and the great (so far) hybrid, I appreciate it.

Really had me puzzled for a while there. I don't like putting out buggy products, so I appreciate your patience and willingness to work with me to get it fixed.

Hey guys...I need some help
I recently upgraded to win7 64bit and I find now when when I run the loader, it some how seems to feel I am just adding software. Is there something I can do that will allow me to upgrade the 9700 without I having to wipe. Even then I cannot guarantee the loader will see the bb.

And one of those was by accident.
Life is a whole lot easier if you let loader do its thing.
Even when I feel like I need to start fresh, I'll do a backup with DM then run loader and select NOT to backup messages etc. That still keeps all my 3rd party apps in place and I do a selective restore after the OS is in place. I did that with my most recent installation of Verdell.
That's my personal view on things.

I have been on Theon since you released it and even skipped over installing Ulrich because of how good Theon was running. Bit the bullet this morning and loaded up Verdell and so far as good as expected results. It needs to be as good as Theon or I will have to go back.......
Thank you for all your hard work.... Thanked by wu-wei (01-25-2012)

Installation complete. Flawless...
First impression: Custom theme bug is squashed! Finally RIM came through. Liking this build already, just for that fact!
Let's see how the OS breaks in. Will report back on that.
Thanks wu, great stuff once again!

My personal experience with this build is that battery life is REALLY good. Memory management....well, that is ALWAYS an issue.
I am in four BBM Groups, 2 of which are VERY active. My cell service was interrupted for a few days so my groups restored over the past 24 hours. Prior to their full restore, I was at -12 MB after reboot. Once the groups restored, I took another 13 MB hit so right now I'm sitting at -25 MB. This is consistent with all of my earlier builds as well, so I'm not surprised by these numbers at all.
By the way, with no significant radio traffic over the course of two days I still saw a memory fluctuation. But my battery was stellar and my ADR was 0.5% at the highest.

Hmm...the memleak you describe is disturbing for me. Normally I don't get values that high. It takes a few days for me to reach 25 megs. Ulrich gave me values up to 25MB, where any other os peaked at around 15MB in the same period of time.
And the batterylife looks very promising!!
Let's just see how it turns out over the following days.

Let's just see how it turns out over the following days. | Those are just my numbers, and they are consistent with what I've seen for, well, months. Active BBM Groups take their toll.
I've seen reports from folks using my builds with virtually NO memory leak. Unwilling to give up BBM, I have to be willing to live with the memory fluctuations that come with it.
Do let me know if you see any significant difference between builds. My point was that battery is improved but memory, well, I can't seem to crack that nut. |

I'm guessing the old ribbon_app didn't play nice with the 706 sfi.
This build I decided to leave it as is. Also, my first report that the custom theme bug was fixed is false. Still broken as f@ck LOL...

Installed Verdell last night on my BB9700 and currently I am getting an error that says:
Uncaught exception: OlympiaRenderingEngine Factory not initialized. This happens when I try and use the browser. I had the same thing trying to use BBM but updated BBM and it seemed to fix itself. I am on Rogers with an unlocked telus BB9700.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks...

Anyone who needs to fix it can grab the ribbon_app file from my other thread.

Thanks... | PM me a system read - sounds like you've shrunk out a file that is needed.

After a few days i can say this build is rock solid. Memory leak is 2-4 mb a day, its fast and stable. Guys i noticed App world eats a lot of space as it saves all images on the device. Lost around 10 mb after just checking one app. Have removed app world and its perfect.

| | This is a noob type question. I think anybody could help me on this.
My first time getting hybrid on my 9700. I'm in Canada. Installed OS 6.0 Bundle 2718 (v6.0.0615, Platform 6.6.0.223) from my carrier Bell. Hate it. I want to wipe everything clean with BBSAK and get the 706 as per Wu's recommendation. I have the Hybrid OS installation guide, How to shrink-a-os and Verdell threads open in front of me.
I know I could get the 706 from RIM myself. But I specifically clicked on the link on the first post for OS download from here for the 9700: Quote:

9800: 6.0.0.668
I have been recommending the new 6.0.0.706 as a base OS for this hybrid on the 9700. Verdell also runs very well with the 6.0.0.666 sfi and a full java swap from 6.0.0.668 on the 9700.
... | and I get to the following page:
----
Software Download for Vodafone New Zealand
Downloading BlackBerry Handheld Software v6.0.0.3049 (Asia)
----
Now, my question is - should I just go ahead and get this? Or, may be this link wasn't updated in a while and I should search out the 706 version and get that?
Thanks in advance!
Never mind!!! I went to the download page and the file name has 706 in there.
