Default B@stard - Verdell (20120121)

B@stard Hybrid: Verdell

Created by wu-wei (theme developer ordinaire and former BDHP member/beta-tester)

The new build: Verdell.

New OS releases, new hybrid builds. We made it just over two weeks before a new leak arrived and prompted me to bust out the hybrid-fu again.

Same overall architecture as Pierre. Now built over the new 6.0.0.723 base for 9700. I have been very happy with the performance of the 723 files.

This hybrid has been through quick and basic testing on the Bold 9700 platform. I have received reports that my builds work well on 9300, 9780 and 9800 devices, too.

Recommended base OS versions:

9300: 6.0.0.668
9700: 6.0.0.723
9780: 6.0.0.723
9800: 6.0.0.668

I am recommending the new 6.0.0.723 as a base OS for this hybrid on the 9700. Verdell also runs very well on 6.0.0.706 with a full java swap from 6.0.0.723, or with the 6.0.0.666 sfi and a full java swap from 6.0.0.668 on the 9700.

I will note that I have seen several users noticing a "break-in" period. That is, the first day or so has poor battery life, but then things stabilize and we start sipping at the battery again. Battery life is critically important to me, so I am always mindful of those issues (and reluctant to leave my beloved 9700 for some shiny new OS7 device). Personally I have not experienced this phenomenon, but I did want to mention that it is possible.

Change Log:
  • Includes new 7.1.0.205 files, including browser files.

I have not personally tested this hybrid on any other devices, or on any other OS versions as a base install; however it should work on other devices without issue.

I will not be providing any support for this hybrid. I have not encountered any bugs with this build, but I have not run it through extensive testing either.

To install this hybrid, extract the contents of this zip file into the Java folder of the base OS you choose to use. On my system, these files were extracted into C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9700Asia_v6.0.0.706_P6.6.0.246\Java.

When you extract the cod files into the folder listed above, you should be prompted to confirm that you want to replace existing files. If you are not prompted, then you are probably trying to extract to the wrong directory and the hybrid files will not be installed on your device.

If you do not know exactly what you're doing, then you should choose one of the following options:

1. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL THIS HYBRID.
2. Read my guide on the CrackBerry forums, available here: Hybrid OS Installation Guide
3. Read any How To posts by elite1 in practically any hybrid or leaked OS thread on CrackBerry.com
4. Search the CrackBerry forums and read as much as you can find about how the BlackBerry OS loader process works.

Again, I will not provide any support for the installation or operation of this hybrid. It is intended for experienced users.

This package does NOT include any third party applications at all. I build hybrid OSes. I do not promote any apps or force users to choose whether they want to install apps they may or may not want. If you are looking for a particular third party app, I probably have an opinion about it and may be able to tell you where to find it (I'm talking free or paid versions, NOT WAREZ).

Many thanks to ench18 for testing and feedback.

Download Verdell

Here is the patch file, which updates a dozen cod files to 7.0.0.609. You only need to download and install this patch if you downloaded Verdell BEFORE 2:30 PM EST on January 22, 2012. If you downloaded Verdell after that time, then these files are already included in the package.

Verdell Patch

Please PM me a system read and I will see if I can track down the problem. All reports I've seen so far were flawless installs, so I need to take a closer look and make sure there's noting missing.

Can you also tell me whether these are happening consistently after every reboot, or if they happened once and then stopped?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure it has to do with the language files you're using. They're all version 6.0.0.600.

Try using the thai language files from 706 instead. That ought to get things straightened out.

I've been thinking about this some more, and looking closely at the errors you sent me from the event log (VERY helpful, btw).

I'm also wondering whether those errors are caused by a 3rd party theme. I noticed one in your system read. Maybe if the updated language files don't work, try uninstalling that theme and see if that clears it up. If it is the theme, you can find an alternative ribbon_app file to inject via BBMCP (or whichever tool you prefer) that might fix it too.

I am incredibly frustrated that I completely missed some new tools to build with yesterday.

Working right now on testing a dozen new cods for this build. I won't be releasing it as a completely new version, I'll just post a patch and update the full release for anyone who downloads after testing is complete.

My apologies for the inconvenience. Honestly, Verdell works very well without these new files....but hey, we're hybrid users. We always want the newest, no matter what. Right?
