Default B@stard - Ulrich (20120105)

B@stard Hybrid: Ulrich

Created by wu-wei (theme developer ordinaire and former BDHP member/beta-tester)

The new build: Ulrich.

New OS releases, new hybrid builds. With my luck, a new OS for the 9700 will drop tomorrow. Sigh. Anyway....

Same overall architecture as Pierre. This is another full java swap of 723 over 706. I have been very happy with the performance of the 723 files.

This hybrid has been through quick and basic testing on the Bold 9700 platform. I have received reports that my builds work well on 9300, 9780 and 9800 devices, too.

Recommended base OS versions:

9300: 6.0.0.668
9700: 6.0.0.706
9780: 6.0.0.723
9800: 6.0.0.668

I have been recommending the new 6.0.0.706 as a base OS for this hybrid on the 9700. Ulrich also runs very well with the 6.0.0.666 sfi and a full java swap from 6.0.0.668 on the 9700.

I will note that I have seen several users noticing a "break-in" period. That is, the first day or so has poor battery life, but then things stabilize and we start sipping at the battery again. Battery life is critically important to me, so I am always mindful of those issues (and reluctant to leave my beloved 9700 for some shiny new OS7 device). Personally I have not experienced this phenomenon, but I did want to mention that it is possible.

Change Log:
  • Includes 7.1.0.190 files and several from 7.0.0.598.

I have not personally tested this hybrid on any other devices, or on any other OS versions as a base install; however it should work on other devices without issue.

I will not be providing any support for this hybrid. I have not encountered any bugs with this build, but I have not run it through extensive testing either.

To install this hybrid, extract the contents of this zip file into the Java folder of the base OS you choose to use. On my system, these files were extracted into C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9700Asia_v6.0.0.706_P6.6.0.246\Java.

When you extract the cod files into the folder listed above, you should be prompted to confirm that you want to replace existing files. If you are not prompted, then you are probably trying to extract to the wrong directory and the hybrid files will not be installed on your device.

If you do not know exactly what you're doing, then you should choose one of the following options:

1. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL THIS HYBRID.
2. Read my guide on the CrackBerry forums, available here: Hybrid OS Installation Guide
3. Read any How To posts by elite1 in practically any hybrid or leaked OS thread on CrackBerry.com
4. Search the CrackBerry forums and read as much as you can find about how the BlackBerry OS loader process works.

Again, I will not provide any support for the installation or operation of this hybrid. It is intended for experienced users.

This package does NOT include any third party applications at all. I build hybrid OSes. I do not promote any apps or force users to choose whether they want to install apps they may or may not want. If you are looking for a particular third party app, I probably have an opinion about it and may be able to tell you where to find it (I'm talking free or paid versions, NOT WAREZ).

Many thanks to ench18 for testing and feedback.

Download Ulrich

Yep, we had a little bit of a lull for a while there, then several new OSes dropped so I had some new tools to work with.

Wu and ench, what a team! Just wanted to drop by and let you guys know that after three months of struggling with a "E net.rim.tcp - OPsx -7" error on my 9700, which made my internet connection crash every 15 seconds while browsing and using Fbook app, I fixed it by deleting TCP service book and net browsing is back to normal. Gave it a shot there just to see what happened and it worked

So, I have now installed clean .706 (been running it for three days) in order to understand why we've moved from .615 and I'm impressed. Browser is obviously slower without the hybrid tweaks, but I sense a little bit more fluid UI since .615.

I'll be installing Ulrich as soon as I can, hope it won't be late enough since I've read your hybrids are coming so frequently. Take care, guys and thanks again for the effort!

Nice, new build to load
I don't know why, but Theon 'feels' a bit sluggish for me. Browser and facebook seems to 'hang' when loading and notifications don't come instantly. It could be me, my network, the .706 sfi or something else (maybe I screwed up the hybrid install somewhat), so giving this new build is very appreciated.
Thanks!

Default Great Hybrid

Hi Wu,

I install Ulrich in my 9300 using base .668, everything runs as it should be.

48 hours after installing :
1. Memory drain is remarkable, since 9300 only have 256 MB.
2. Lock 3G is excellent, so it save battery drain a lot and make browsing/download stable even in bad weather.
3. GPS is fast! It locate my position almost instanly.

Thank you, Wu..

*result may vary but for me, Ulrich is a 5 stars hybrid in 2012*

Decided to give this one a go. Obviously too early to tell anything, but so far ui is really smooth, zero lag. Will keep you updated in a few days. Thanks Wu

Reinstall the base OS, then reboot your pc.
Then, COPY the Ulrich files into the java folder. Click YES TO ALL when asked to replace the files.

Ulrich only contains the replaced files and needs the base OS for completion.

Good luck!
