u have a little over 8mb of free space, its enough for the phone to operate quickly at, but if it gets tight on memory it may shorten your call log and remove older sms messages and such as it needs.

The OS begins to do this when under 10mb file free when it needs more room for running apps.

to me thats no big deal, to others it is.

i sometimes run with only 1-2mb file free myself and its still ok but it will delete older logs.

10mb ='s ~10,000,000 bytes which is what is recommended to run above without deleting anything on its own.

8 isnt bad for us 8830 users we dont have much to begin with so i wouldn't worry much.

Default what does the "about" screen show with hybrid?

(I think) I followed the instructions to upgrade from straight ".160". All seems well, but on the about screen there is no mention of OS 5.0. Did I screw something up?

Thanks!

Default thank you for the quick reply

Also a big thanks to the OP!

Gives me something to play with until VZW ships the 9630!

Off topic: I'm a little surprised/disappointed that with the U2 cross-branding that it wasn't released as the 9360--since U2's tour is billed as 360. I know it messes with RIM's labeling CDMA devices as XX30, but it would have been a cool tie in as far as VZW was concerned. Too bad U2's new music leaves me longing for the Joshua Tree era... Oh well, I'm still stoked about the BB "Tour."

Regards,

What does it mean to OTA "the precisions?" (I know what OTA means.)
I'm gonna try this when I get back to a computer. The media player in .160 suh-ucks.

Facebook and everything else works fine. Its basically .160, just spruced up with some 5.0 files.

Hi Guys and Gals,

Quick update...

First off, I'm not a "theme guy." I have used the standard RIM zen theme since I got my 8830. The bottom dock OS 5 theme that Sunkd linked, just rocks.

Now the not so good: My free memory is no better than any of the 4.5 OSs I've tried. The likely memory hog culprits are my favorite apps--Viigo and Weather Eye (along with Docs to Go). If those didn't eat RAM, I might not lust after the Tour since my business international travel has slowed along with the world economy.

Back on subject--I'm happy to have a cool new theme to play with. The true benefits of the hybrid OS are a little hard to identify so far (but still cool to play with). Is there a way to tell if I did the 4.5.0.160 to 5.0 hybrid conversion correctly?

Thanks, and have a great weekend!

Hybrid OS loaded without issue. I see improved battery life and a bit more memory available (about 1MB more). Also - the bottom dock theme is awesome. I have always went back to the default vzw theme on my 8830 as the other themes I have tried just don't do it for me. The bottom dock theme you posted is staying on my bb. Thanks!

Thank you so much for this skunkd!! I've loaded this and it worked fine. I don't see any noticeable improvements except for the new theme.

Thanks again!
