Default using external gps for verizon

I am looking for a solution for verizon locking the gps feature on my 8330 and I understand that I can use a gps puck as the external. My question is can I use a gps for a car as the external gps? Specifically a nextar gps as I have found one cheaper than a new gps puck

If you have a car gps unit that has the ability to output location data via bluetooth, it should work. I'm not that familiar with car GPS units, so I don't know if any have that capability. You have to connect via bluetooth. The 8330 has no capability to receive location data via the USB port.

Verizon partially unlocked the GPS in 8330's running OS 4.5 or later. BBMaps will work, as will Bing. I don't know if any 3rd party apps work, but if you are using OS 4.5, it's worth a try.
