Default notifiation light = highlighted corner, gps confirmed, magnetometer!

so looks like there's no led on the thing after all, but rather the corner of the screen lights up colours for notifications

More BlackBerry PlayBook Features Confirmed – GPS Mass Storage Mode and More - BerryReview

also gps, and 6 axis magnetometer confirmed! 30-40 second reboot (but supposedly faster in newer builds)

rebooting will be far and in between since app installs do not require a reboot and potentially OS updates also do not require a reboot due to how QNX works.
This interests me a lot... How do you update the OS with the OS running the entire time?

Luckily the issue of whether or not you can set things to stop running in the background has been addressed, many people wanted that information.

It all depends on what part of the OS is being updated. If Windows can do it, QNX can do it, lol.

PART of the updating occurs while Windows is running, but then you have to reboot, and depending on the updates, you may be cooling your heels for a while waiting to get back to the desktop, as windows finishes installing the updates. AAMOF, during the shutdown process, there sometimes will be a "configuring updates" message as files get replaced.

Like I said earlier, it all depends on what part of the OS is being updated.

If the OS update is a major one affecting the file system or some other critical feature it would require a reboot but if it is a small change to a configuration file which handles environment variables or in the case of this thread (the colour of the notification area) or something equally trivial it wouldn't require a reboot.

Not all Windows updates require a reboot.

Wow, I really like how they did that notification light and I was also wondering about how the screen locks and unlocks. Thanks for the info!

to me it looks like there's a led embedded in the corner there. otherwise, lighting up the screen for notifications is a bit of a battery hog no?

I remember Kevin saying on the CES podcast that there is a 1sh pixel border between the bezel and the rest of the screen that could be used for notifications and stuff. So technically it is part of the screen, but its not in use. Also if it borders the entire screen, I can see that being opened up for use on a lot of different things.

good point. it would also allow for notifications in all the corners since you can change the orientation any which way and it should orient itself correctly. neat!

berrybuzz for playbook anyone? lol.

Will that corner light up if the screen has timed out and is dark, or if in hibernation/locked mode?

That brings up a cool idea.... Top left corner notification for text messages, top right for emails, bottom left for facebook, and bottom right for twitter... or however you happen to set up your personal PB!

Edit: or different colors.

4 corners?

Guess it would be pretty hard to remember what's for what.

Or what orientation you had the PB in last. Probably have to do each corner with a different color to be usefull.

If you're gonna do that, might as well just use one corner and can have alternating colors for multiple notifications to make it simpler. IMO.

If that 1px inside the bezel goes around the whole screen there would be some good uses. GPS my boss's BB and when he comes within 30 feet it can start flashing red, so I can shut down my porn surfing or vid. LMAO.
