Maps missing "start gps nav"

My 'start gps nav' seems to have vanished. it will not show my location either even though the gps is working.
Ideas?

ps tried google maps - not sold here.

Wipe the phone and reinstalled everything yet again. The only thing not working in maps is locking my location center, i have to keep scrolling manually.
