Default autostart?

Great app.. thanks for all your hard work!

Any chance of adding the option to auto-start after a reboot?

Cheers!

Ron

Has anyone had a issue with logging in to your BlackBerry ID to complete the BBM integration? I keep getting the same "Unable to login to your Blackberry ID account". Password has been reset and is correct. Still no luck. :-( Using a 9650.

The BBM-Registration have various issues right now - as example I am unable to pass the "verification" step with the BlackBerry of my wife...

Have in mind that all this registration dialog / process comes from RIM's SDK (all an BBM-Integrated App can do is to call "Register"... and then a lot of "magic" happens in the background)... My assumption is that the current infrastructure RIM might need some optimizations - for me as Developer there is almost nothing that could be done at my end... All is coming from the used BBM-SDK [which is finally out of BETA]...

So I hope the situation will change in the future...

actually this would be possible to add - but honestly the battery consumption will be quite noticeable when running the GPS-Antenna all the time... Take a look at my other Tracking app (LittleBrother) - it might be sufficient for your needs?

I just downloaded GPSLogger II on BB9700 T-Mobile.

Problem: I can't get past "Waiting for GPS..."

I have been using BBMaps and Google Maps with no problem. T-Mobile says they don't block GPS access for 3rd party apps.

When I launch GPSLogger II, the Path View appears. It says "Waiting for GPS data..." I wait and wait, but nothing happens. I've tried rebooting and pulling the battery.
When I choose "Start Logging", I wait and wait, but nothing.
When I "Test GPS Settings", I eventually receive the message "No valid GPS-Location can be provided by your device - Sorry."
I've tested all GPS Settings (Data Optimal; Response Optimal; Assisted / MS-Based; Standalone; and Celltower) and receive this fail message for all except for "celltower".

I am outdoors and getting zero satellite fixes, and celltower navigation is not what I'm looking for. I need satellite GPS tracking for the wilderness.

Can anyone help me solve this "Waiting for GPS" problem?

Thank you!

Greg

Hello Greg,

the question is (as we have started in the emacberry.com forum) if there is somebody around in your area, that is a) on T-Mobile and b) on a 9700 and if these people are able to get a GPSFix.

From what you have written here (and at emacberry.com) it really seams to be a device/provider issue [which I am not able to reproduce over here in Germany - I have a 9700 and a T-Mobile Sim - both works fine in combination].

The issue you are describing is really looking like that none 3'rd Party GPS App seams to work - since none can get a Location from the LocationProvider interface.

I guess you haven't tried any other 3'rd party GPSApp (GoogleMaps & BBMaps has been always working in the past - even on the Verizon devices that have locked GPS).

Hello Matthias,

Mystery solved! You are correct - the problem was my device software. I put my sim card into another blackberry, and it locked onto satellites no problem. Time for me to get another device. I'm sorry for the trouble, and thank you for your assistance! I look forward to using GPSLogger!

Cheers,

Greg

Hi Greg,

actually before you are getting a new device you might like to install a new/other OS on your 9700 - not sure if you are familiar with updating the OS on a BlackBerry - but IMHO it's worth a try [but for sure do this at your own risk].

I've been trying for months to get my GPS to lock, and I can't do it. I've tried upgrading and downgrading and deleting files and updating and stuff. I can't get it to lock at all. Except on a random nonconsistent basis. It's really upsetting.

What#s your experience with other 3'rd party GPS-Applications?! - Since there is only a single API for all of us...

They're all the same. Endomondo (which is the reason I want it to work), GPS Tool, and Google Maps all fail to lock. Facebook, Fandango, any Weather App, they all fail to get a lock. So I know it must be my phone. It just frustrates me that I can't fix it, as it seems to be a software issue, not a hardware one.

well - If you are still on the 9700 - and if all fail/behave the same (and only BBMaps is working) then I would return the phone... [or at least clarify your vendor/provided does not lock GPS access by purpose]... it's the OS/device itself that causes the issue - not the 3'rd party apps!

Default GPSLogger II, a wonderful contribution to the community!!!

I have upgraded to the newest GPSLogger II version 2.4.0.5. because there was a bug causing the previous beta version to expire on a certain day...

I would say don't worry. The app is free and the newest version will NEVER expire !!!

Take care
Thanks to the developer !!!

(You are invited for a free beer, you need to pay for the air ticket though)

I had a problem with BB 9700 not locking especially the build-in geotagging function was useless.

I downgraded from OS Version 6 down to OS Version 5 and the problem disappeared.

OS version 6 is not GPS friendly. It is definitely not the app that is causing you the problem.

Also bare in mind that the very first time or after a long distant journey it always takes time to lock. You also may consider leaving the app running at the background if you are using it too offen....

Other than that

Thanks to developer again!!!

GPSLogger II v.2.5.0.2 released
Battery lifetime & general responsiveness

What's Changed
  • Battery lifetime enhancements - the new version of GPSLogger should (hopefully) treat the Device battery a bit better. Please note that requesting constantly a GPS fix is quite a heavy task for your device but in the new version various changes have been implemented in order to extend the battery life of your Device as long as possible - specially when you allow the Device to turn the Backlight OFF or send GPSLogger II into the background.
  • The opening the PathManager or LocationManager is now happening asynchronous - this would allow you to cancel the reading of all your Paths/Locations and should make this actions way more responsive.
  • The BlackBerryMaps View can be completely disabled (or only be disabled while on Roaming). When you are using GPSLogger II either in a country that does not support BBMaps (yet) or you like to avoid any kind of data traffic you can completely disable the Map View in the 'Appearance & Startup' options.

Full change log including the OTA URL's for OS4.6+, OS5.x, OS6.x & OS7.x: http://www.emacberry.com/gpsl/gpslogger_04log.html
