gps says none on my bb 8520 ?

I have just upgraded from my old blackberry which was 8310
to my new blackberry 8520 ,
but when i try to use gps it says none beside it.
Any ideas on what could fix this

The 8520 doesn't have a GPS in it, only the 8530. I think if you use GoogleMaps you can still get some help with your location. It will use cell towers to get a fix on where you are, it's not as accurate as a GPS enabled phone, but is better than nothing.

It still doesnt get my location and it wont work on facebook maps either.
My friend has the same phone as me & it finds him no problem

Your friend may have an 8530. It has a GPS receiver. Your 8520 does not.
