| | amaZeGPS update
I haven't seen it posted here, and I couldn't find a thread on it,
but amaZeGPS has updated to it's 4.2 version.
Still not the fastest app, but much, much better than the
previous version. And the UI has been "tarted up" a bit
Also now in addition to arrow view and map view, there is a
3D map view. Looks pretty cool.
Haven't had a chance to road test it yet, but I like the improvements.

I tried amAze a couple of months ago and couldn't get it to rotate maps to show direction of travel up. Can the new version do that? It's possible my earlier problems were user error.

Glad it's improved, but I want Direction of Travel Up, not North Up. Rotating maps, and the ability to start my external GPS, are the two reasons I've kept BBMaps on my phone.

I have to admit I have no idea what you mean by Direction of Travel Up, but if you tell me I'll be sure to check it out.

It's a common feature of GPS Nav systems. The maps rotate so that the street on your right, physically, is on the right side of the map. If you're driving South, a map that has North UP will be reversed left and right to what you are seeing out your windows. Try it with BBMaps. There you have the choice of "North UP" and "direction of travel UP."

Yes, it has that feature and in fact it's enabled by default I believe. I have it on my 8330. Sadly the audio is still cut offon this phone, just like with nav4all. My guess is it's a bug in the 4.3 os or the 8330 itself.

I'll give it another try. So far, telenav is still working for me. Google maps is another alternative for me.

I put v.4.2 on my vzn 8830; the install went fine, permissions set to allow everything. But, I get this message:
"The application amAzeGPS has attempted to open a connection to a location inside the firewall and outside the firewall which is not allowed by your IT policy."
I use BIS and have gone into the permissions to allow all connections. I've even rgone in and reset the firewall prompts in Options ->Advanced Options ->Applications ->amAzeGps -> menu->edit permissions.
I use an external bluetooth GPS receiver that bbmaps and nav4all and amAze all find. I can even use the amAze compass, but no maps.
My OS is v.4.2.2.195 platform 3.0.0.85.
Anyone have any idea why I'm getting this firewall message?

I got that same message the other day (from a different program) and could not figure it out. I, too, have BIS and, therefore, no IT policy that I'm aware of, nor one that I can override. I went through Permissions and "Expanded" permissions and tweaked the firewall. I think the message disappeared but then other programs have firewall issues.

Went to download it and says it's still 4.1 and that 4.2 is not yet available for my model - 8130 Pearl.

Just got it tonight and tried to a little "navigating"... The interface is goofy with the # and @ buttons being the menu and back/close commands respectively. Also, I think the interface/UI is very laggy and hard to move around with the trackball. I'd also try to get voice directions out a few seconds sooner.
Enough cons already! I really liked the "direction up" (discussed above). It felt like a garmin. The maps loaded fairly quick and satellite images were clear. Overall, 7/10.
